I don't know why they can't just get a 7" display on a 5" screen. Fits in your pocket and you get the benefits of a larger screen. Win win.

They gimped the right specs, for once.
You mean the 3D Touch? I've not used it once in 3 years.
3D touch is great. How else do you sneakily read WhatsApp conversations without actually opening them?
Why would you want to sneakily read messages?
Because sometimes in either group chat or if someone has messaged me I want to see what they are saying but without them knowing. So I am under no obligation to reply quickly.

Does feel like they're now just experimenting to see just how much we'll pay for a phone.

They have no growth whatsoever in marketshare, only people who are already in their ecosystem. So their entire business model is now about getting as much money as possible out of their existing base.

No. Android manufacturers can steal market share from each other. See Huawei

No, not unless you're willfully ignorant.

Rather than depending on an anti-competitive ecosystem to force people to continue buying their products, other manufacturers depend on being competitive.

Theyíre competitive but android hardware is all more or less the same between phones so itís essentially a different brand on the same hardware for a lot of them.

It's not just about the phone hardware though, is it? It's a doorway to a house full of apple dongles, headphones, watches and assorted satellite hardware, software, cloud and music services that go with it. People who have been using apple products for a while no longer have the ability to vote with their wallet, they're shut into an increasingly expensive ecosystem that yields diminishing returns.

Alright, how about giving your fingerprints to a random chinese company?

How is that different to giving them to a random US company? Or as it goes now, an ID optimised 3D image of your face.

    @Dirtbox

Is there actually an equivalent tablet to the iPad Pro in terms of speed, weight, software etc?

When the next pro comes out Iím expecting a 11Ē screen in a sub 500g chassis, it just doesnít exist elsewhere.

    And donít say windows surface.

So they are definitely the best in the tablet market IMO. Expensive but hey.

Seems like a stupid question if you already know the answer but won't allow me to say it.

I think tablets are pretty worthless, my wife's ipad is alright for her as she doesn't do anything more technical than control hulu or youtube on the TV with it.

When ipads are relevant to what anyone has been talking about here, I'll let you know.

Yeah. I donít see how you can exclude surface. I sold my iPad when I got my surface and it is probably my favourite hardware ever. Does everything the iPad did, but I can also use it as my work laptop.

For starters I think Apple will be around in 5 years. Oppo for example? Not so sure.

And they are almost suicidally protective of their data, which is more than you can say for Chinese state sponsored outlets.

Just started using an iPhone 6 after years of Androids. My note 4 died and I liked at upgrades and the like and just thought 'screw it, I'll use my old work phone '.

I've been using my phone too much for all sorts of things I eventually thought were vital and need to unplug from the thing.

Smaller screen is taking some getting used to, but I'm getting used to how you get around it and the battery is better. Same apps seem to be on both and they seem to do the same things more or less.

    Cost me £75

Oppo? The company that's been making phones since 2001? 6 years before Apple started making phones? I'd say they have a fair chance of being around for a while yet. Bit of an odd choice out of the hundreds of manufacturers though.

I'd be more worried if someone could furnish me with a legitimate reason anyone might have for using my index finger's print.

So. They have to clone my phone, then create a finger, then log into my banking app, then use the finger to unlock the... Wait. This doesn't seem particularly feasible.

There's a phone with a heat camera. There's one with an eink screen on the back, one that is trying to be environmentally friendly that sell spare parts on the store. One with three cameras on the back. One with 3D screen. One foldable. Many dirt cheap. Loads of phablets. Some that are tiny. Many that are shit.

If you look at the top end there is definitely a lot of similar phones. Most of the Apple clones can be found there.

But there's a lot of variation even in the west.

Is this the same dirtbox that once wrote a guide to internet security?
