Had an update on the John Carpenter tour of the UK, there's now a VIP upgrade option. However, just a tad expensive...

N.B. These DON'T include tickets to the event.

EARLY ENTRY & EXCLUSIVE MERCH PACKAGE UPGRADE 75.00

    Includes:
    VIP Early Entry
    Collectible, autographed tour lithograph
    Specially designed, exclusive tour T-shirt
    Exclusive VIP Laminate
    Exclusive John Carpenter Tote Bag

    or

MEET & GREET PACKAGE UPGRADE 125.00

    Includes:

    VIP Early Entry
Exclusive Meet & Greet with John Carpenter
    Personal Photograph with John Carpenter
Autograph session (limited to 2 items)
    Collectible, autographed tour lithograph
    Specially designed, exclusive tour T-shirt
    Exclusive VIP Laminate
    Exclusive John Carpenter Tote Bag
Yeah, I'd like to get his autograph, but not desperate enough to go forking out 125 for it.

Had been wondering if hanging outside the back entrance was an option, like when I went to see David Byrne in Birmingham, who was gracious enough to sign a whole load of stuff for the hordes of people who waited.

Can someone change the title of this thread so that it doesn't question the fact that he is a genius?

New John Carpenter album coming, a collection of his film theme tunes:

From 'Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998,' a new collection of John Carpenter's classic film themes. Out October 20 on Sacred Bones Records.

Yes, please - you can also get rid of all of those needless capital letters. Glolzers, I was such a zany yoof!

Nice. Cheers for the heads-up. New re-recordings or just a "best of" compilation? The latter, I'm guessing ... but now I really want to hear Carpenter revisit and rework some of his classics :)

Think I've already got individual CD releases of all the Carpenter soundtracks that I care about, i.e. most of them, but did enjoy the couple of non-movie instrumental albums that he released recently.

Listening to tracks by Carpenter that aren't from any Carpenter movie that you've seen is a weird experience, though - can't help imagining what awesome and unseen Carpenter movies they're accompanying in some parallel universe :)

EDIT: Ah, just done a bit of research on this and turns out it is an album of new reworked versions. Sweet. Sold!

Shame there's a couple of tracks missing from the CD release - "March of the Children (Village of the Damned)" and "Body Bags", only available on a bonus 7" vinyl included with the most expensive and limited vinyl release.

Oh well, they're not the most essential tracks, I guess - and we should probably be used to this "limited pre-order-exclusive content" stuff by now, being gamers. It still chafes, though, knowing my CD version will be deliberately and unnecessarily 2 tracks short. Harrumph.

So disappointed no one is mentioning Hair in this thread. Up there with the very best of his films.

@AaronTurner The scene where the main guy, haunted by hair-loss issues, is walking down the street and sees everyone - even dogs - waving their luxuriant and fulsome manes makes me piss myself every time. Carpenter definitely has a talent for comedy, even though we don't see it as often.

@ghostgate2001 Might be worth keeping an eye on Amazon, when I bought Lost Themes they did their CD Autorip thing, but it came with five extra tracks (remixes by other artists) that weren't on the CD.

The Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross Halloween cover is, unsurprisingly, very moody

    @YenRug Yep!

It was pretty weird that it was Halloween though because A LOT of horror film nerds came dresses up as Jason and being socially awkward anyway they stood silently around the place and it freaked me the fuck out tbh.

This bump just made me read the wiki article for The Thing, I hadn't realised it was released the same day as Blade Runner. What a day for cinema that was.
