Registered 13 years agoHe's the son of Alvin Stardust apparently. I guess if you send a tape of decent beats and a wad of cash to the right people, shit starts to happen. Plus he was pretty massive in drum and bass right before the hip hop stuff. It's not too dissimilar to that collaboration Mike Patton did with the X-Ecutioners.
I always remember of that traffic awareness video with Alvin whenever I think of Adam F, in a leather jumpsuit waving a leather gloved (with gold rings over the top) finger at some children for not looking both ways. You must be out of your tiny minds! -

Back on the production thing.
Went through the car CDs, two albums that good example of consistent beats are gangstarr - the ownerz and clipse - he'll hath no fury.
Gangstarr, peace of mine is one of my all time favourites as it hits out at commercial radio etc. -

Registered 13 years agoHell hath no fury is some of the best work Pharell ever did, I was especially surprised because I'd always assumed Hugo was the actual talent. -

Registered 14 years agoWell Gangstarr is Dj Premier who is arguably the best producer ever -
It's like going into a classical music thread and saying Mozart is good. -

Well funny you should say that because apparently Hugo took more of a production lead on hell hath no fury.

Registered 11 years agoRight.
I remember Hell Hath No Fury being dull as dishwater generic gangsta glamorising rap of the most tedious kind.
I'm going to fire up Spotify and give it another go as I was much more of a fundamentalist at the time. -

Registered 11 years agoNope, rapping still does nothing for me. You sell drugs do you? Please tell me more this is such an original concept. Please charmlessly tell me how much you are hustling/grinding and how much paper you are getting as I've never heard that sort of thing before either.
The production is so simplistic. It's just looping up a really basic keyboard line. Don't get it. Each to his own though.
Best thing about it was an advert for Desmond's (7:00pm on the Africa Channel by the way). Loved that show.
To be fair it's not even the gangsta stuff that I dislike I don't think. I love this compilation of ignorant as fuck Southern Gangsta shit for instance but what it lacks in intelligence or originality it makes up for in humour and crusty bedroom-studio rawness. It feels authentic whereas that Clipse album couldn't be further from that.

Registered 13 years agoYeah I never liked their brand of nasal rap but I do like the beats on that album a lot. Don't really pay attention to what "wisdom" they "spit" and I'm happy enough. -

Article I read must have been wrong. I just looked at the inlay card from the album and it is all produced by the Neptunes. If it was just pharrell surely the credits for each song would just say pharrell.

With every line written, And all I have given
Music's been nothing more than a self made prison
I've taken inmate losses at the hands of this one
My pen's been the poison to family and friendships
Now is time to mend shit, Time to bring closure to
The clear conscience of Pusha is long over due
Thinking to myself, what could I be owing you?
They only tell you great when they reminiscing over you
Before I trouble T-Roy, It's just a D-Boy
Let me play the role of a common on his B-Boy
Speaking my truth in rhyme no matter how bland it is
A heavy heart lighting that's just what my ransom is
All apologies, I bear the cross I wear the blame
We in the same group but I don't share my brothers pain
Not to confuse, Our sentiment are all the same
I just don't feel Nothing I'm Numb by the will to gain
Same thing brought tears to innocence I turned away
And didn't even flinch, Yuuch
The music drove me crazy
Looked up and lost the first bitch I ever wanted to have my babies
Nowadays She can't even face me
I'm sorry for the heartbreak I promised you forever my lady, Jodeci baby
Pompus muthafucka! Just look what them jewels made me
I'm only finding comfort in knowing you can't replace me
What a thing to say! But what am I to do?
I'm role playing a conscious nigga
And true is true Cocaine aside
All of the bloggers behoove
My critics finally have a verse of mine to jerk off to. -
I got a voodoo doll, every time I pin the verse,
not only do they say they feel it but they say it hurts. -

Registered 14 years agoHell Hath No Fury is a modern classic imo. Yes, it's just gangsta-posturing coke rap, but very self-aware about it.
I can understand people not liking the production, I didn't like it at first, but I think it's fantastic and what makes the album stand out. Ultra-minimalist beats and endlessly entertaining lyrics, good combination. -
Agreed. Grows on you. I think all three clipse albums are pretty much 5/5 but hell hath no fury their masterpiece.
I love pusha t - fear of god 2 but there are a few terrible tracks on it and it suffers from lack of Neptunes. Still it has monster tracks like amen, trouble on my mind, my god.
I look toward to his full debut this year, could be classic if kanye puts his time and effort into the project also.
Still I feel not much point in releasing decent rap anymore, it just doesn't sell. Even the most popular artists struggling to shift more than 100,000 firsts week where they would have sold 500,000 a few years ago. If you a average seller like styles p then forget it, gangster and a gentleman sold over one million ten years ago. His latest album, which is a great album and better than g n g, sold no more than 100,000 in total. -

Registered 14 years agoNot really a fan of their other albums tbh, too much party/R&B-style rap and they don't sound as good without Neptunes. HHNF was a one-off imo, everything came together just perfectly on that album. -
Lol never though I would thought I would hear someone call out clipse as rnb party rap.
Grinding, ego, comedy central, popular demand, door man, showing out etc.
You must love some serious hardcore helmand province rap to call clipse rnb rap
If you not at work search clipse feat jay z where you been on youtube, love that tune.

Not quite as banging.
It's good but not as funky as their last album so I'm struggling to find it as instantly accessible.
A few vids from it on youtube though so you can decide for yourself:
