I've been listening to a LOT of Fliptrix tracks today. Interesting dude, I didn't like his style at all to begin with but it's definitely grown on me.

He's not my favourite of the High Focus lot, but he's a talent for sure.

I think they've all been a bit too prolific in the last couple of years tbh. I'm a bit saturated with it all.

I kinda know what you mean, there is just SO much on youtube for example. I can't complain though, there are some genuine great rappers and producers, and awesome tunes in all that.

Whose your favourite out of that lot? Verb T?
  • Deleted user 30 June 2014 18:14:59
Verb T has kind of been adopted by them but yeah, he's great, but he doesn't quite have the identi-sound the rest of them have (which is a good thing).

I think Leaf Dog is the real talent driving the rest of them. They're all good but they seem to have all nicked his style a bit.

I might have said before, but if I won stupid millions on the euromillions I would pay Leaf Dog and Jehst to produce an album together. No guest rappers, just Jehst over Leaf Dog beats.
  • Deleted user 30 June 2014 18:24:20
Knowing the UK Hip Hop scene I reckon you could make that happen for about a grand.

Love how Leaf Dog blatantly keeps all the best beats for himself. Fair enough, you would wouldn't you.

I like the Edward Scissortongue stuff as well. Not really head nod stuff but he's a good one to sit and listen to. Also a bit different to the norm.

We should go see some more live hip hop sometime, that was fun
  • Deleted user 30 June 2014 18:41:56
    I've invited you twice since!
  • Deleted user 30 June 2014 18:45:43
Damn, Jehst is actually doing Jazz Cafe this Saturday. Would be tricky for me but that would have been perfect...

Bit about UK hip hop in The Guardian (under the hateful moniker "Brit Hop").

Kind of late to the party, but hey, any mainstream recognition is a good thing right?

So out of nowhere I appear to be going to see De La Soul tonight in Reading.

Not seen them for about 10 years. If not more.

My colleague went to see them. She got paralytic. She met one of them on the stairs and was very drunk at him, apparently.

They were unexpectedly fantastic at glasto this year. The long intro to the grind date is something I'll never forget.
