This news has made me surprisingly emotional.

My wife gave me Ty's more recent album (work of heart) this recent Xmas. She was then was admitted to intensive care around New years, due to pneumonia following a flu infection (not coronavirus). I used to listen to his album in the car on the way to visiting her in hospital - thankfully she has almost recovered fully now.

But now Ty has died of pneumonia type virus.... 🙁

I remember him being quite ill a few times in the past. I think he had sickle cell or something. Think he might even have had pneumonia before. Remember fearing the worst when I heard he had it but I thought he was on the mend so this is still so shocking.

You always hear the stories of what a gent artists are when they die but he really was exceptional. I know so many people who he helped out. Everyone had a story about him. So sad.

I haven't heard that for years, I loved that tune back in the day.

I remember watching some show on BBC many moons ago where they were trying to make actors out of musical artists and Ty was on it. He smashed it, he was a natural.

If the link works it's a run the jewels Spotify sessions live concert that popped up on my suggestions. Loving it so far, having a bit of a home concert to it now. Just need a drink to go with it.

    This needs capitals.

RTJ4 IS OUT AND ITS FUCKING IMMENSE!

Tracks 1-9 are just insane, there's no break to the intensity and epicness. Tracks 10-11 bring the pace down but are nice closers.

Listened to it about five times straight to tonight.

Side note to e-lp for his best collection of beats so far, which is saying something!

I don't tend to listen to much hip hop (Jazz, Blues and Rock is my staple) though last week I was going through some old records of mine such as New Kingdom Grey Album and Public Enemy and so came into this thread for the first time.

Bichii's love of Run The Jewels stood out and I'm now listening to '2'. It's really good - excellent recommendation. I'm going to check out that Roots rec now as well.

Positive stuff reading about RTJ4 here, can't wait to listen to it.

Was anyone else slightly disappointed in RTJ3 after RTJ2 or is that just me?

Lyrically it's on point but I think the production as a whole wasn't as perfect as 2. Still epic beats though just there were a few I didn't like as much. 4 is more like 2 in that it's 80% relentless hard track after hard track at the beginning and 20% more chill at the end.

I'm bouncing between RTJ4 and Alfredo. Very different albums but are both album of the year contenders.

I like RTJ4, but for me there are really just 4 or 5 stand out tracks. That being said, those tracks are some of the best they've ever done (in my opinion)

I am not a hip hop obsessive but I know what I hate. And I don't hate RTJ4. And I agree Holy calamafuck is the best track

Anyone listened much to the new Medhane album Cold Water?

It's really excellent - reminds me a bit of the last couple of Earl Sweatshirt albums in style but a bit less out there.

It's great anyway, give it a go!

RTJ4 is pretty awesome. I think some of the tracks are my favourites of theirs. I love Walking in the Snow, Ju$t and Pulling the Pin (the latter mainly because of Staples guest spot)

But it's just great from start to end.

For a second I thought walking in the snow was the first beat I didn't like then at 30 seconds it drops property. Even on first listen it had me singing along to the hook.

If you have Sky there's a 4 part documentary about Wu Tang that's very good.

Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics And Men.

I've been bumping loads of old skool classics the last few days. So many incredible albums but one of my favourites has to be Scarface - The Diary, cold classic. I don't think there a skip on there at all I can only say that about a hand full of rap albums.
