I like the idea of Paper Metroid, that would be an interesting take on the series. -

It's still an RPG, just with platforming elements and effectively real time combat. The platforming isn't of the exacting Mario standard (well, it hasn't been so far, anyway) and the bigger emphasis is placed on working out what to do, rather than doing it.
I wonder if they'll consider giving other games the Paper treatment. N originally did it for an RPG, but if it works aswell as a 2D platformer then why not a Zelda, Metroid, Kirby or Yoshi effort? Might be a good idea. -

Yes alright mate you know what I mean, the emphasis was more on the trying to Paper other franchises. I would like to see a Paper Yoshi game, even scope for a Wario version. I'd rather see a Paper Wario rather than a half decent 3d Wario platformer.

Registered 17 years agoIt will be 7 months after the US when Trauma Centre hits Europe. Going by that i think this will be released for Xmas in Europe to keep people happy while Japan and the US play Mario Galaxy.

Registered 18 years agoJokes aside. As some of you might know the population of scandinavia has to suffer under the evil 'Bergsala'. This collection of dimwits and watch salesmen have aquired the rights to sell and market nintendo products in sweden, norway and denmark. They do their outmost to fuck it upp even worse than NoE.
One brave soul however, has somehow managed to get a job at Bergsala and smugle his brain through the doors. He is responsible for the release list at their mediocre website. They are usually earlier with the dates than NoE (LoZ:TP for Wii was en excellent example) and they know what they are talking about.
Super Paper Mario never showed up for the GC. This made me think that (in good PAL spirit) NoE decided not to publish it so close to the end of the GC. That meant no translation work got going and probably a swicth somewhere was swiched that set the "Super Paper Mario for EU?" to a big fat NO
That switch has since then not been unflicked. Just look att that release list above. No hint of a Paper Mario. Look at NoE and it's the same.
My guess is that right now they are having a blamestorm at NoE. They are also happy that decades of grooming have turned Nintendo loyals in Europe into a flock of sheep.

Yeah, wasn't having a go (Paper Metroid in particular appeals to me), just making sure nobody goes into this expecting pixel perfect platforming action.

Me too. Although I seriously have no idea what to do then :/ Well, I do know. My next Nintendo home console will definetly not be PAL anymore. -

Which renders them utterly fucking pointless.

Registered 15 years agoIf Super Paper Mario isn't released on PAL, I'm never buying a PAL console again. Seriously, I won't take that risk, I'll import it. I just don't understand why they wouldn't release it over here, the sales of Thousand Year Door weren't really really bad were they? -
Nintendo's silence appears to be annoying alot of people on here. Perhaps we should do something about it.
If enough people explain there frustrations to NOE, to get some kind of answer then surely they cannot ignore us.
Can they ?
-
They can't if we all write our letters, attach them to bricks and throw them through their windshields as the drive. -
The fact that they aren't saying anything gives the impression that they haven't decided, and therefore may not be coming, or may not be coming for a while whilst they get their act together. -

Or put Bananas up their exhausts. -
I seriously doubt this will fail to come over here - considering the lack of high profile titles coming to the Wii at the moment, a Mario game (even a quirky, side-story-RPG-type Mario game) is a no brainer for Nintendo. I suspect the lack of anouncement is merely due to the title's change of platform, and we'll see it announced soon enough. -

Registered 18 years agoPaper Mario The Thousand Year Door was released in the US on 11th of October 2004; the European launch followed on the 12th of November 2004. So in reality a May the 11th PAL launch could have been possible. -

A Modchip allows you to play backup copies - and there is a very easy way to convert US images to PAL images and thus there is a way to make US copies run on PAL machines.
I don't want to chip my Wii because it could be rendered useless via an update and I honestly don't want to put up with the hassle to burn my games. I'm too lazy for that

Registered 16 years agoSo yeah - am about 12 hours in on this. I am not enjoying it as much as Thousand Year Door, but I guess there is still time.
Reasons why:-
- The battle system - really basic, just basically a platformer vs a turn based RPG. No depth.
- The 2D town(s) just dont feel as substantial as the full 3D modelled world in TYD. The flipping between 2d and 3d is pretty cool, and wel,l handled, and a nice idea - but a fully modelled 3d world would have been better
- Secret areas seem to be at a premium. Repeating areas / going back seems to be a bit pointless, leaving the chapters feeling relatively linear, more akin to a direct platformer.
All in all, so far, definitely a good game, but it is short of the brilliance of TYD at the moment due to its lack of depth. -
I was excited about this until i saw the screenies, it just looks too flat and boring compared to TYD. Here i was hoping it would be the game that was a system seller to me but it's yet another "meh" for the Wii. Gutted.
I'm holding on to the idea that my opinion will change once people have played it for a while and reported on it but i'm not hopeful.
