havent been into phone tech for a few years but seeing as my phone has become a strobe-phone (the screen just flashes..pretty funny with the lights off actually) i am looking for an upgrade.. living in Ireland so id rather it be unlocked or atleast "pay as you go" so i can unlock it myself..

any ideas from the knowledgable among you?

I'm looking at the Nokia 6233

newer phones out but decent features,

    2 megapixel camera
    320x240 screen
apparently very good build quality with, some say, a perfect keypad
    VGA video recording

seem to go on ebay for about £100 or £130 brand new on pay as you go from most shops.

Get a contract and you'll get a proper nice phone for next to nothing.

From my experience, I'd stick to Nokia - best build quality, best interface and pretty much always reliable.

Sony Ericssons usually have better battery life than Nokias and Samsungs are awful. Nokia N series phones are a bit buggy, but it depends if you even want a smartphone?

My experience of sony ericsson has been dreadful, but that might just be me. Nokia has never let me down

Having spent over a year working for a mobile retailer here in Ireland I'd be pretty confident in saying that currently Sony Ericsson make some of the best phones. Their battery life is excellent, as are most Nokias. I currently use a Samsung D900 which is very snazzy looking but with poor battery life and an average interface. I personally think the Sony's have the best UI but most seem to prefer Nokia. Avoid anything from Sagem and BenQ Siemens. As an aside... working in a phone shop is shit, angriest customers by far!

What do you want it to do?

Phone and SMS, phone + SMS + music, phone + SMS +music + mobile internet?

If it's the first, then just go and get a cheap PAYG phone

well ive been looking at the LG KE820 .. it seems to be between €250-300 on ebay at cheapest but it does pretty much everything i want and its a terrific looking phone. I dont think any Irish companys currently have it

i dont mind about music capability but a decent camera 1.3-2megapixel would be nice with a VGA video recording capability would be cool.. bluetooth capability too and java games maybe.. so im thinking the LG.. anyone had any experiences with it or with its sister phone the LG "Chocolate" ?
