Anyone know where I can buy something like this on the high street?

My old headphones that plug in directly are knackered, and I've got a perfectly good set with a 3.5mm plug that I'd like to use.

I'd buy them online but I've got a long journey tomorrow so would like 'em asap!

You mean phone shops don't sell them?

I dunno, that's why I'm asking! I'm hungover to fuck and don't want to go shopping unless I know I'll find what I need. :)

The W850i come with a plug a bit like that, but on the 3.5mm jack there is a microphone, so you can use this in conjunction with your regular headphones to make a hands free kit.

    Not that this helps you.

Or I would ever use the W850i (even with 1GB stick in) over any iPod.

Why not? I've got a iPod, but with my W800i and a 4gb memory stick I find I don't really use it. Nothing against the iPod but I prefer to travel as light as possible.

The walkman phones are just so crappy at playing music still. I baffle at all these kids who listen to music on their phones. Not only is it a pain in the teeth to get music on them, but when you to it's just not that great an experience.

Don't really have problem with it.

Admittedly the software that Sony uses to rip songs is a bit rubbish, but I rip all my MP3s through iTunes and then just use Disc2Phone to transfer. Once they are on my phone there's no problem finding the music I want, setting up playlists or the sound quality.

You should be able to buy something like this if you can find a Sony store. Obviously a lot more expensive than the one you linked, but I've had one of the cheap ones and it literally fell apart on me. I then bought a similar one to the one I linked and it's been great, no problems and slightly better sound quality too. Only minor niggle is that it comes with too much wire for my uses but it's easily bundled up and tied off.

Weird, your W800i should've come with a HPM-70 headset - with the detachable 3.5mm plug. Any phone store will have HPM-70/HPM-82 (same thing but with a remote along the wire). Any phone store with any kind of self-respect, at least.

Can't agree on the ipod comment. Only because I lost my HPM-70 I'm using the ipod again. Superior usability (no hasty getting phone out of pocket, ripping ear phones out of ears) and definitely no worse sound. Actually the equalizer is better than the one of my ipod (mini), thus the mobile actually is delivering more enjoyable sound.

    And don't try telling me it's because I use cheap ear/head phones. Because I don't. :)

Concerning the first linked cheap adapter: Those works well, if you're using it for music only. Don't try speaking to anyone because the mic produces unstandable interferences. At least two of those unbranded adapters did for me. I say go with the HPM-70 line. Better buy quality than twice.

I had one of those cheapo ones and it was a pile of crap. The connectors break off in the phone if you take it off at the wrong angle (although this can be fixed) and the sound broke very soon, have to spin the headphones round and hold it tight in the connector to get any reception through even 1 headphone.
