So any astronomy heads out there in Eurogamer land? Just bought a new telescope for nipper (and me tbh) and want to find some sources for getting up to speed on the basics. Used to have a load of books on it as a kid but that all went up in flames 20 years ago (literally). |

Registered 16 years agoFor reference purposes, you should get hold of Norton's 2000.0. It has all you need to know about the solar sytem, plus a pretty good list of stars and other celestial objects.

Registered 15 years agoI used to love astronomy. Love it I tell you. Now I worry about a large comet blowing the Earth up. Hollywood sucks.

Registered 16 years agoThe Cassini-Huygens Home at the Jet Propulsion Lab is pretty interesting at the moment. They've just posted some images from Titan which show a hydrocarbon sea bigger than the Great Lakes. -

Registered 20 years agoI am going to use the "Educational" excuse to get a decent telescope too!
Years ago, I was buying a planisphere in Waterstones, and a large smelly man shuffled up next to me and said "Do you like Astronomy too?".
How easy is it to fit a SLR to a telescope? -

Registered 15 years agoI don't think the newly discovered ring is visible through a normal telescope. Wikipedia says it was only discovered using this, looks like a fairly serious piece of kit. -

Registered 14 years agoUsing my Uncle's telescope in Spain where there was no light pollution you could see the moons of jupiter which was pretty cool. Be careful looking at the moon though - a bit on the brightside. -

Also saw Jupiters moons and some wacky two star system, with red and blue suns. -

If you have an Android or Iphone download the Google Skymap app. Brilliantly handy.
