RyanDS wrote:Cheers! I started looking when they said the two would be dancing. i still didn't manage. I have a couple of apps on my phone to help me but I look where I think Venus is and then down to the right and see nothing. Still amazes me that I'm looking at a planet. Then I go to the other side of the house and see what I assume to be Jupiter and feel equally amazed. |

Registered 13 years agoHave a look at Jupiter with binoculars. Even with fairly cheap ones you should still be able to see the moons dancing around if you are patient.
Or even better buy a cheap telescope, for £120 odd you can get something where you can see all the moons, the big red spot etc, not to mention the rings of Saturn, -

Registered 13 years agoFucking gutted. With no car and now back in london with no garden I just cannot keep my telescope.
On ebay it goes. Genuinely feeling quite upset at seeing the kit I spent a couple of grand on and 2 years building going up for sale, but hopefully will at least be able to use the money to get something portable I can throw on my motorbike and get out with..

That's a lovely bit of kit and something I would love to upgrade to. Unfortunately my funds for a new telescope are toast due to a new fence needing done due to recent storms. -

Registered 10 years ago@RyanDS That's a shame mate, nice bit of kit. I don't get out as often as I should with mine. If you're on Facebook, search for a page Secondhand astronomy equipment uk. Or if you're not I'll link your eBay page to it. -

Registered 13 years agoCheers mate, I will have a look at the page.
Cost me around 3k to build I think (it is amazing how much they charge for just little things like T-adaptors! £50 for a simple ring!) I am hoping to clear a grand for it, and then pick up a collapsable dob that I can throw in a backpack.
My dreams of photography are over, but at least I can focus purely on visual now, which makes things easier than (what I was doing) having a bulky jack of all trades kit. -

Registered 16 years agoA collapsible dob on a motorcycle? Which dob you're looking at? They're not that small even when they're collapsed. -

Depending on the bike I get there may be some fairly reasonable luggage space.

Registered 10 years agoSo i have a 10mm and 25mm wide angle that came with my skywatcher heritage 130p. O nly been able to go out a few times due to weather.
Is it worth getting a barlow x2 or a 6mm ep. Or am i better sticking with what i have.
Looking at getting a but closer to jupiter and want to pick up m42 if i can. -

Registered 13 years agoAre you UK based.
If so neither to be honest.
With a 130 the UK skies really struggle to get stable enough to make a 6mm useful. I found the sharper, smaller Jupiter much better generally than the large fuzzy 6mm.
M42 you want wide, not tight focus, so the 25mm is what you want anyway.
If you want to spend some money I'd say invest rather in filters (eg a decent moon or light pollution one) or better quality eyepieces than the stock ones. -

Yeah south east, cool sounds good. Dont want to be the guy chasing the higher zooms at cost of quality. Will stick with what i have got till i really know what i am doing and then maybe invest in replacement EP's for my stock ones.
