It looks amazing but the thing that always gets me is the amount of light that can be seen from the planets surface due to all those street lamps and cities.
Thought I'd share this. What the stars look like from the ISS.

I'd love to go to Mars and point a telescope back at the Earth when I knew the side of the planet facing it would be in darkness. -

I've been laying the groundwork for years, I mention it every six months or so. The prices seem to have come down quite a bit too.
You fuckers are going to make me buy a telescope. I don't know if my relationship can handle any more geekery. If I walk in with an astronomy set it might be the final nail.
Plus it's "educational". Like a 48k Spectrum. -

That's lovely. It's odd how alien the planet looks at night. Liked the last sequence, showing electrical storms on earth and the milky way above, just before the sun rises.

I'd like to slow the whole thing down x50 and have it as a desktop. -

There is something very sobering about that picture. -

Oh, it's bizarre:
What’s got the world of astronomy excited about the new study is that the researchers have captured “light echoes” from the Great Eruption bouncing off dust a hundred light-years away from the system.
Echoes! How do they know!?
There's a link in that first article to the explanation -

Registered 13 years agoJust had a lovely session. Found a club, astronomy 4 everyone that meets just outside Guilford. Took a drive out there and they had some awesome skies. Very friendly bunch of people, gave me some good tips and laid on tea and coffee which is always appreciated on a cool night.
Saw some outstanding sites. M42 was particularly attractive, Jupiter and the Pleiades were astounding as well.
Will definitely be heading back there again tomorrow night, this time with a proper set up. (I wasn't expecting much from the skies tonight so didn't take my laptop / camera etc.) -

Registered 17 years agoUsed my sisters refractor last night 50mm with a 1.5x barlow and I was amazed how much of Jupiter I could see after fiddling around.
Could make out the darker of the bands on the planet and could see the 4 inner moons. Shame I can't attach a camera to it. -

He said he can't attach a camera to it. Being able to attach an SLR is a must for me - I'm assuming there are adapters? -
Took a couple more photos last night -
