Beer is expensive. ā‚¬5 -ā‚¬6 a pint in both the red light zone and the main square bit

Was ā‚¬12 for 3x herbal cigs and .50 cent to use some toilets (grasshopper) some toilets looked like something out of saw

Good laugh and nice place just pricy for a weekend away with lads (ferry from Newcastle Friday 4 pm arrive 9am stay over night ferry home Sunday 5 pm) cost nearly 450 with no pros invol

Good god trying to find a hostel for 5 peopel that isnt a complete dive or 30mins out of the city is bloody hard!

Last time I went we did a camping site at the end of one of the tram lines. It wasn't too bad considering how cheap it was. Had little huts and gypsy wagons you could sleep in. I drove so I wanted to be near my car.

Found one in the end.
Went with just booking a 6 room dorm between the 5 of us so it worked out at £30 a night with breakfast/inc tax.
Had good reviews too so hopefully its ok!

Erm, you don't need a "wietpas" anymore, but you do need a dutch identity card starting in january.

That's what I read as well but it seems that they'll leave it up to the local towns/councils to decide whether or not it's possible to sell to foreigners. So Maastricht will still be restricted to Dutch nationals only but Amsterdam probably will keep it business as usual.

Yeah but amsterdam is quite a drive from belgium. I used to go to Breda, so hoping they allow it there again.

Exactly this is good news for tourists going to Amsterdam, possibly not so much for bordering nations hopeing to hop the border for some grass

Ok location to stay for a few nights away with the Mrs? Want easy access to bars and restaurants, if I'm lucky I'll get an hour or two in a coffee shop but mainly there for the museums etc

@Richardiox, you can't go wrong with proximity to Leidseplin. Hotel prices seem to have rocketed in recent years though.

My 3 favourite hotels in the 'Dam..
Pulitzer.
Die Port Van Cleve.
Krasnapolsky.

My office won a team night out there last month. We're all old heads and are all buzzing about the prospect, planning it for late September.

I went to Leiden recently. Made a day out of it. Not too bad. 35 minute drive to Antwerp, pick up a friend, then a 1 or 1.5 hour drive to Leiden. Arrived at 1pm, wandered about the town a bit, had a coffee, visited a market, found a coffee shop at some point, had some dinner.
headed home around 9:30pm.

If I hadn't received a speeding ticket for 120€ the next week I'd have been a great little trip.

Hotel Krasnapolsky, right in the middle of Dam Square. Perfect location, shops, palace, trams out the front, cafes & bars no matter which way u turn and the RLD directly behind it.

Anybody done the expat thing out there? Potentially I have a job opportunity with relocation to Amsterdam with moving costs etc paid.

I quite fancy a few years somewhere different. Anyone know what cost of living, work culture etc are like? Would be annoying as we just bought a new house and would have to rent it but it could be a great opportunity.

Hey guys. Trying to sort out a stag do to Amsterdam in may and need tips on any activities to do with the stag. Already going paintballing and the red light photo shoot but need something else to fill a Saturday! Any tips/recommendations?
