I've just found a copy of a magazine from January 1993. So I thought I'd share with those that haven't played the originals.

It was brought out jointly by 'MEGATECH' and 'Mean Machines Sega' (anyone remember them?)

Anyway they have a review section at the back:

Yes! The Megadrive needed a fabulous beat 'em up, and Streets of Rage more than delivers. With excellent sprites, backdrops and brilliant music, Streets of Rage is initially very appealing. Add in great gameplay and simultaneous two-player action and you've got an essential buy.

STREETS OF RAGE 2:

The best scrolling beat 'em up ever to hit a home console. Basic playability's similar to the original but the execution is far superior. Bigger, faster, brighter, better in just about every region just about sums it up. An absolute must for your collection.

I can't believe I found the mag. I don't chuck too much out though to be honest!

SOR2 is, any probably always will be, one of my favourite games.

We used to start on 9 lives on the hardest difficulty and if at any point you went below 9 lives you got a right mocking

Awesome, been playing the first one a fair amount, kept dying on the bit where you have to fight all the bosses again (those two chicks are fucking solid when solo).

SoR 3 on the other hand had awful music, but was probably the best game.

SoR2 was superb - The only thing was the paralax scrolling on the fairground level made me feel really sick when I used to play it - There is that remake floating about that incoproates all he features from all the games (Characters, The police car special move etc) floating about on the web - I think Retro gamer has a big article on its dev in the current issue...

Reminds me of that Morrowind mod where they replaced every single sound effect with that.
