@monkman76 That's what I meant earlier when I said it might have been a good arcade racer, but it was a shit Burnout game. It's expectations, preferences, etc.

The next Halo could be the best turn-based medieval deck-building battler there is, it would still disappoint Halo fans. Admittedly Burnout Paradise is a little closer to the older Burnouts than my example, but my point stands. ;)
Do wamt turn-based medieval deck-builder. Halo fans get disappointed by everything ;)

The stunt runs are the worst bit, that and drift challenges need to fuck off from arcade racers and never return.

Stunt runs were ace! Say whaaat.

I liked Paradise but not enough to bother with a remaster.

@LittleSparra Well I think this one should come close:

    http://store.steampowered.com/app/646570/Slay_the_Spire/

    It's not called Halo, though!

The map is a pain in full screen mode. It moves you from one event to another rather than scroll through.

Great fun though. See myself sinking many hours into this.

This had the best slo-mo crashes of any game I played on the 360.

Just bombing around was great. Only really bettered when Forza Horizon turned up.

Getting lost during races was crap though. Just not fun. They should add the 'Big Surf' route-finding option to the main game...

I've been playing Burnout Revenge on the PS2 a bit, and I have mixed feelings about it. Sure there are many more cars around, but crashing on them has no real weight, so they feel almost like scenery. The load times are pretty bad too, being able to drive around on a big map selecting missions without having to go through the menus every time, must have been a huge plus.

I prefer Forza Horizon 1 as far as open world games on the 360 go, but after trying both Burnout 1 ad Revenge, I can understand why people would praise Paradise at its time.

I don't see much of a point of this remaster, especially if you have an Xbox One or a toaster PC. Then again, it's not available on PS4, and that's the biggest market right now, so yeah... it's not exactly pointless after all.

Review on front page. I don't think it really needed a new review to be honest. It's the same game but with all the DLC, and most people feel the way they feel already. They could've just re-posted their original review.

@RelaxedMikki Did you never notice that the indicators on your car flashed to tell you which way to go? Certainly helps avoid getting lost.

Genuine question - do reviewers ever take price into account when 'scoring' a game? Is it even possible?

It seems quite a common theme in the comments and I'd say it's sort of justified in this instance, especially when you can pick up the original with all the DLC for around 3 on the PC.

    @Tricky

No way! I never noticed that... time to dust off the old 360, I guess!

Well Donlan does reference the price in his review, but clearly his love for the game is such that it doesn't affect the score. Which is fair enough really?

Here we go look - perhaps we can stop arguing. We're *all* correct.

Burnout Paradise is one of the most energising driving games ever created, one of the purest zone games in years, and one of the most thoughtful and surprising and integrated takes on what makes an open-worlder tick and what keeps an open-world feeling connected, readable, and coherent. And hilariously - hilariously! - it's not even the best Burnout.

2 was the best for driving, 3 was the most fun, revenge...well it was okay but it took the series focus way to far towards the takedown side and paradise well...to me it didn't feel like a burnout game any more.

If EA remastered burnout 2 or 3, then I'd bite their hand off for that. Paradise...well I might get it once it's below 10 but even then I'm not that bothered about it, I have far fonder memories of Burnout 2 and 3.

My personal feeling is EA went with Paradise because they already had the PC version of engine from last time round and it was a quick, cheap and lazy way of filling in their barren release schedule.

@oceanmotion The mini-map doesn't rotate. So if you're driving south for example, and you need to go west - towards the left on the mini-map - you need to turn right in the car. Which at those speeds gets confusing. If there were one thing I'd change about Paradise, it'd be a rotating mini-map so you're always travelling upwards on it.
That will be it. So disappointing, I'm really struggling to deal with it. I'll give it some more time but so far ruins the experience quite a bit. I guess back then open world racers weren't a thing and everyone did it the right way after them or something.

It is a struggle, and that's why the races are probably the weakest of the main event types. So much other good stuff to enjoy though. And eventually you learn the city well enough to be able to wing it, rather than constantly checking the map.

Maybe focus on the other event types until you're more familiar with the place.

What an odd review. Sure its a good game and I loved it on the 360. But to call a quick cashin with no effort behind it as essential smacks of forgetting context entirely. This is an old game in numerous ways, so are we judging it on the grounds of a new game in 2018? Or are we judging it as a remaster which improves on the base game?

Either way it falls down due to graphics, out dated multiplayer systems or even just the price.

Don't get me wrong I like Burnout Paradise and own it in multiple forms due to bundles and other giveaways. But I just don't understand the review.

Totally agree. I loved it a decade ago but it's definitely outdated, and I wouldn't touch it for the price it's going at. Not an essential as far as I'm concerned given the context.

@Sharz it is a quick cash in, they are using the PC version of the game. EA didn't do anything except put it through recertification. Hell the PC version supported the xbox gamepad so they didn't even have to bother fiddling with the button prompts for the xbox one version.

What particularly chaps my arse about the Remastered review is the fact that Eurogamer review coverage is so spotty and they wasted time on a remaster of an incredibly well known title that practically everybody here already knows about.

That coverage could have gone to something more deserving.

I just plugged in the 360 and downloaded the original demo. Fuck me you're all mental - it's such a hoot just hooning around the city. The handling is just so much fun.

The EG review is somewhat too jizz-flecked though, I will say.

Scratching my head over that review as well. Essential? I tried it as part of PS+ on the PS3 years ago, and even back then was very underwhelmed and dropped it very quickly.

UncleLou's comment on the article is spot on by the way.

For shits and giggles I also downloaded the Forza Horizon 2 demo, having never played a Horizon game. The handling in that is just so leaden in comparison. I know it's not supposed to be quite as arcadey, but still.

Didn't even review the crash trilogy.

Would have left EG if not for the forum. The main page misses so many game reviews and is flooded with click bait and they jump from one game getting multiple articles to another each month.

If it's not Uncharted it's the last of us, Destiny or at the moment Sea of thieves.
