Realllly not the same kind of racer at all.

Fine. Just thought I'd mention it as I tried them both out, one after the other. I actually played Horizon first and, having not switched the 360 on in months, thought there was something wrong with my left analogue stick as it felt so unresponsive. Then I tried Paradise and realised it was fine.

In fairness Horizon came up earlier in the thread in the context of, who needs Burnout now we've got Horizon.

    So ner. :p

I certainly enjoy them both for similar reason. A huge, lovely map to explore with lots of stuff to find, lots of races to complete, and a whole bunch of cars to unlock all with fun handling that really lets you push it to the limit. Horizons might try to bamboozle you into thinking it's something else, but really there's a whole lot of overlap there when you're playing it casually, just messing around and doing the occasional race.

I'd definitely want another Burnout. Whoever said that was wrong!

I don't understand how this achieved an essential rating. I've got the original and its nowhere near as good as the previous burnout games.

The races are far too easy, and the takedowns incredibly simplistic.

Because they played it and found it enjoyable to the point they found it Essential. My opinion would be similar, for those that have never played it before, though not for those that have already played it.

Burnout Paradise is my favourite racing game and one of my favourite all time games. My OH half loves it too so we will be playing though it for about the forth time :)

Yeah Burnout's handling is verging into twitch territory

I couldn't get into Paradise. Loved Burnout 2-to-Revenge, but Paradise just left me weary. I like having well defined tracks, really.

The open world was kinda fun for a bit, but I didn't like the races being so freeform. I missed the way the tracks from the earlier games were all separate but linked together by sharing parts of the terrain. If they could have made 2 or 3 or Revenge open world between races they'd all be better.

I disliked the driving around in search of races, and the traffic light system. The roads weren't particularly memorable either.

Well if they do a good job with the Mass Effect trilogy they can have my money.

Christ got Friday off so was tempted to get this, thought it was a budget title considering it's a remaster...£34.99! Fuck off.

@Humperfunk Aye I'm in the middle of a big move, so no new (or any!) games for me, but in this case I am glad as that is a saucy price tag.

Even Capcom - they who have fallen far, far from grace - managed to launch Okami and Dragons Dogma at a budget price.

@FuzzyDucky yeah absolutely, think it's because of those that I was expecting a reasonable price tag.

    Good luck with the move!

Presume it will be on EA access properly soon enough.

@Humperfunk Thanks muchly, chap! Yeah the Sony remasters tend to be mid price (and best in the biz to boot), plus some of the other ones that came in at decent price points, but this is blatantly just EA going all nickle and dime.

I feel as consumers we can't win here... If it fails at retail they'll just say that and not bother with other femasters. If it does well then theyll use that as a standard price.

    Bah.

    I was speaking for myself.

Maybe if you return to it you can memorise all of the roads.

I just had the realisation that I vividly recall working in GameStop when this originally launched... It was the first big game of 2008 after the post-festive lull (I was considering buying a console for it but ruled it out as the PS3 was still stupid money and we used to handle about 10 RRoD'd 360s a week in the shop, so that put me off).

Over a decade ago, time does fly...

So does anyone else remember EA sneering at the top of this generation that remasters are beneath them, and now years later they finally have a no-brainer remaster out - I guess after watching every other publisher clean up.
What else could they do? The evil internet took their loot boxes away.

What have EA got, built on recent enough technology that's even suitable for remastering?

Practically nothing relatively compared to their prominent position in the market. Dead Space Trilogy? That will be a great reminder for everybody regarding the fate of Viceral Games. Also, they'd really have to pull the stops out, Dead Space still looks and plays fine.

Mirror's Edge was a game that sat in used bins and stayed right there even at rock bottom prices. The game has it's fans but it's not something most people want to play once let alone revisit.

Mass Effect trilogy is a lot of work for a quick cash in. I remember when I got EA's last take on the trilogy, sitting around for ages downloading and installing endless odds and ends accessed via voucher codes because they couldn't even be bothered to get a new version of the Blu-Rays certified.

Heh, good point. You could possibly argue that 80% of EA's catalogue are re-masters.

I would fucking love this, they're still pretty playable today (especially Jungle Strike).
