Not worried about the "purity" of the game when it comes to a huge free roaming city, more worried about the framerates.

If this is anything less than blisteringly fast a la Burnout Revenge, it's going to completely ruin it.

Criterion are a technical company, it'll run fast guaranteed.

I'm worried about the free roaming though, I don't think it works with a Burnout style game. Revenge was the peak for me, I'm not interested in this one.

No ifs and buts about it, if it's even a smidgeon slower than Burnout Revenge was, they will have wasted their time.

So far I've yet to see ONE next gen game that does the "free roaming" thing smoothly and as sweetly as games that chop and divide levels up. Which leads me to believe that it's beyond the tech. Put it this way, I dread to think what the game will be like if any of the data is streamed off the 360's DVD drive - the noise alone will kill ya, if the framerate doesn't!

I still want to see a Road Rash game for modern consoles.

But I don't know if this is known already, but according to a news summary of events at Sony's Devstation conference the PS3 is the lead development platform for Burnout Paradise. Link.

New E3 trailer up on Gametrailers, looks exactly like the last 3 basically, just prettier.

Suddenly sounding a LOT more interesting (EG Front page at the moment)

The camera "mong face" idea is brilliant!

Does indeed sound rather excellent. It's the free roaming aspect that's got me interested, about time someone did that properly in an arcade racer.

Will it work with Burnout though (the free roaming) the engine is great for racing but can't see it being good for exploring.

    Wow, looks pretty neat.

But I need burnout to be burnout. crashes, smashes, bastardly dirty multiplay...

my friend has been a tester for the new burnout at EA in chertsey.
it's been canned once already - was near a final build just before last xmas but they kept on finding so many holes in it they stopped it altogether.

so then he got put on the new harry potter, which is out now.
so yeh, he was on the new build burnout about a month ago - he's travelling round europe atm. EA dont let you work 12 months, 11 max, so he figured he'd take his time off and travel.

online free roam around the city v.s (they were testing servers etc) is pretty good, and it looks a bit sexy too according to him.
Thought I'd share what little i know. even if it is old hat or whatever.

Last I heard was sometime in November, but I have no proof of that.

The most intense and chaotic driving I've played for a long time. It reminded me of that jaw dropping feeling when I first got my hands on Burnout 2. 60fps HD is quite a sight...

Do you know when it's due for release Valli? I heard November too but it's all gone quiet on that front.
  • Deleted user 12 October 2007 14:53:52
Not a clue tbh... Q1 2008? The build I played was complete AFAIK, better than most demos that are released weeks after beta. That's great news, as they have lots of time to polish things. I expect this one to be a huge hit and the demo truly left me speechless.

This isn't true but I can't really be bothered to go into it.

I don't know the date but I think it's next year, not sure why though... Play says December.

please do, im intrigued. canned not meaning completely dead gone, just the peeps incharge being like 'for f*cks sake, ok lets leave it for now.'

they tested it at chertsey and everyone on it got put onto other things as the team leader was informed 'it's gone back to formula so there's nothing for you test atm.'
Hence my friends utter frustration of going from burnout to potter on the psp...

It was taken out of QA, yes. I was at UKQA while it was going on but it's not a very interesting tale and is all about milestones within development so won't really be that interesting to anyone outside of it.

I haven't played it much since working on it last year but it sounds like its going from strength to strength, which is good news. I guess I'll hunt out a copy at some point, Valli has piqued my interest.

New trailer up on US PSN, vid looked ace. Dunno how the traffic light mechanic will work, but at least the've gone for something different. Wasn't sure from the video what has happeend to the crash mode though.

Frame rate seemed to alter quite a bit too. Eye-bleedingly fast in places. to just...fast in others. Fingers crossed.
