No chance. As long as you don't hit holiday traffic such as campervans and caravans you can do it in 4.5 hours leaving during the day.
Leave at night and if you put the foot down should take you 3 or so. -

Aye, if Pinkds is going with a few mates or other half I'd suggest getting Chalet and few bottles of red around Aviemore way and go skiing etc more than anything.

I actually helped install design / build and install the counter in the bar. It'll take you fookin ages to get to Skye though, the roads are SUPER bendy. Worth every minute mind as the place is incredible. -

Applecross is a must if you are staying in Loncarron. And that has one of the best mountain roads in Scotland. Its called the pass of the cattle and rises to 2100 feet in 6 miles or so, and if you get it on a clear day there is a parking/viewpoint at the top and you get great views of Skye. The pub in Applecross serves some of the tastiest seafood i've had.

And i may as well add....if you are going to Skye dont go across the bridge (you might have to in winter) but if you can and if it still running take the Glenelg -> Kyle Rhea ferry. A good drive to it which gives you views of the 5 sister of kintail and is more interesting than the bridge. -

Registered 14 years agoCool, some great ideas on here - thanks. I happen to enjoy autumn/winter holidays more than summer ones so the thought of bad weather is something I look forward to .
Applecross was featured on a TV programme a while back with some guy who stayed on an island and was trying to be self sufficient. It looked really nice. -

Registered 19 years agoMy sister got married on skye earlier this year and I stayed on afterwards for a short holiday. If you go blaven is a lovely and not too tricky mountain to climb. glen brittle, glen sligachan and the fairy pools on the way to glen brittle all offer amazing walks with a great view of the cuillin mountain range. The trotternish ridge and the old man of storr are also most impressive.
Oh and a trip to the talisker distillery is well worth doing if you like a decent single malt.
There are loads of cottages to rent at reasonable prices around broadford which is a good central location from which to tour the island and return to the mainland. The local chippy is pretty good too. -
