Registered 17 years agoNot had any bad dreams yet, I do play in bed though.
Just tried 43 again, 2:09
Its actually pretty easy, the big thing on it is to do the 3s next to 0s first, then the 3s diagonal to 0s (if the 0 is top right of the 3, then the top and right side of the 3 have to be covered). This then allows you to do a load of the 2s, as they are diagonal to edges of 3s, and so you can do them. Then youve got a load of little bits drawn, and theres only one way to connect them.
Anyways, im upto 97 on the second batch, 20 of the third, but non of the fourths. All done with full stars, if I dont full star one of them, I try again a few days latter.
52, now that one annoyed me! -

Registered 15 years ago2:09! You bastard!
Like I said, I can't explain why it took me so long - my average for 10x10s is between 5 and 10 minutes I reckon.
You've got full stars on all of them? Blimey, you're clearly a lot better at the game than I am. I will probably go back and attempt to get full stars when I've completed it, but that is going to take a LONG time.
52 is bad, eh? That's my next one.

Registered 17 years ago52 was just one of those when id keep hitting dead ends. I think I was seeing automatic moves, where there were actually options, and then ballsing it all up from there.
Just finished the full grid of the second set, got 555 stars now.gif)
In terms of total play time this is probably my most played game this year! Ive got the Mrs into Bomberman now though so things may change. -

Registered 15 years agoSlitherlink is very quickly becoming my most played game this year, although it still has some way to go before it overtakes Excite Truck and Wii Sports.
Been trying to introduce Slitherlink to my girlfriend, but she is addicted to 'Essential Sudoku' which is probably the bargain of the century - £12.49 on amazon.co.uk and you get 1,000 picross-style number puzzles and 1,000 sudoku puzzles. She's had it for months and still plays it every day. -

Registered 16 years agoAny of you guys know what button combo is needed to select red-line, blue-line, x and eraser? Sometimes I like to play using the d-pad but you still have to touch the screen to select these. -

Registered 17 years agoI don't think there is a button combination for those... I always use the d-pad, so I simply don't use the blue lines or the eraser...
On another note, I've finished the third difficulty level!!!!
Only 50 puzzles left... -
Flipping brilliant, this is. Got it today and done the first 15 or so in an almost zen-like trance. Last time I was this completely entranced by a game was, um, Picross last week. .gif)
The business about saving on the first page of the thread though - I was under the impression it was autosaving?
Edit: Spoke too soon - number fifteen took me...33 minutes. O_O

It autosaves after every level, but you can save a game-board in progress (i.e. complete with all the lines you've figured out so far)...

I also find I go to bed with 3's, 2's, 1's and 0s in my mind, with lines connecting them all up, so I tend not to play near bedtime either!
Yeah, I know what you mean - I once had a dream about a square with '5' in it! It was more like a nightmare actually ...
Funny because this is actually the first game that really seems to haunt me when I sleep. It's gotten better though, but seriously, the first 2 nights I woke up in the middle of the night having Slitherlink puzzles in my head. It screws your brain that thing, never had anything like this with any other game. -

Was the first 25 mins of that figuring out how to open the DS? -

Lol!
TBH if I hadn't had several people telling me how the game worked when I first got it, my first puzzle could well have taken me that long, too. Stick at it Mapster, the first few took me a while before my brain 'clicked' with the game but after that I was away! -

Registered 16 years agoThis is why the game is so much fun. I usually play when I'm going to bed and it happens sometimes that I wall asleep for a minute or so over the DS. When I wake up again I realize that there are only 3 lines to be set and I finally solve the puzzle - after spending almost 20 minutes without any success. It's like my brain walks into a one way street and once I think that I know how to solve it I cannot go back and always want to do the line the same way although I know it's wrong. I just cannot think of other solutions if I don't take a short break. I start again, thinking: "Wait, now I know how it should be done" and then end up the same way as before. -
This is going to be fun to try and explain...
1. The 2 in the very upper left corner - change the line so it goes round the other side of it (i.e. following the very extremeties of the board) - that square will still work but the one below will only have one line touching it.
2. The 2 that's currently in red - you can now alter the line round it so it goes one square further up, thus meaning it now touches only the left and right sides of the square in red and also now touches the left side of the 2 one down from the top left.
Did that make any sense? -
Hm, I've just realised I haven't even done that puzzle yet either! Ah well, one good thing about the game - it's kinda hard to remember a solution off the top of your head. .gif)
I've found myself using the blue 'temporary' lines a lot more recently when playing it, makes it easier to remember which lines are absolute certs (which I keep marked in red). Nice feature, just wish I could toggle to it without having to tap the screen (using dpad and buttons for laying the lines). -

Registered 17 years agoAs I mentioned above, I only use red (certain) lines, but in some of the harder ones (hello, difficulty level 4!) it seems nigh on impossible to do without at least speculating a bit... -
Heh, turned out that puzzle Mapster got stuck on was the very next one I had to do...and, er, I found it a bit easy. Mind you I did the next two in under five minutes each too so maybe I'm just getting the hang of it more.
The only annoying thing about the blue lines is that once you've got them all in the right place you then have to go round and swap them all to red, which eats up precious seconds. It would have been nice to have a button that would just swap them all in one tap, but I guess that's the tradeoff you make for using the blue lines. -
Remind me what the point of the blue lines is? Just use red ones all the time, surely? -

I use red ones only in places where I know that they are 100% correct. Like 3s next to 0s etc. I then use the blue lines to set lines where I *think* that they are correct. If it turns out that there is no way they could have been correct I just delete the blue ones without thinking about deleting too much because I don't touch the red ones. I did only red ones in the beginning too but soon realized that I often deleted lines that I should not have or I had to rethink wether this line is already placed wrong or still correct. -
Yeah, the blue lines are useful for differentiating those lines that you're 100% sure of and those that you've guessed at. Initially I just used the red lines but had a couple of occasions where I got enormously confused over which lines were definites which then caused me to get enormously stuck. This way I know that everything that's blue could potentially be wrong. -

You're not wrong - 52 is really pissing me off. I've attempted it four times now and I get stuck at the same fucking place every time!
On Saturday, I just skipped it and completed 53-60 in no time at all, averaged about 5-7 mins per puzzle. I thought that would give my brain a bit of a workout to prepare me for 52, so I went back and guess what? I GOT STUCK AGAIN.
Fuck! -

If that's puzzle 52 of the 18x10 post up a pic of where you are. I only went past that one in the last couple of days. -
