Yup, but it doesn't add anything to the game imo... Just makes it impossibly hard to control the car.

Force Feedback doesn't feel quite right either.

Have you messed about with the wheel options?

They were the crappy minority though, I don't own a single game with tearing on my old consoles. On the 360 I've continued to adopt this stance of "no vsync, no sale". Unfortunately I only own about 4 games!

I understand and agree with your stance but there are more than four games on the Xbox 360 that don't tear... Madden NFL 07, Burnout Revenge, Fight Night Round 3, Condemned, F.E.A.R., Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, LOTR: Battle For Middle-earth II, Kameo, PGR 3, Forza 2, etc., etc. Then there are plenty of games that only have very minor v-sync issues from time to time like Dead Rising, Viva Pinata and Gears of War so it's not all bad. Unfortunarely Colin McRae DiRT *does* seem up there with the bad though, i.e. pre-patched Saints Row, MotoGP '06, Command & Conquer 3 and Splinter Cell: Double Agent, which are by far the worst offenders for tearing.

While I see where you're coming from, you're most likely in such a tiny minority that it is insignificant for the sales - which means you're only punishing yourself, as "play a great game with tearing" is certainly better than "not play great game at all", no? :)

Best day of my gaming life was when I killed my inner graphics whore. Although my new PC has caused some stirrings deep within, and I can feel a resurrection of my inner graphics whore if I'm not careful. :)

The only time I really can't stomach tearing is when it makes the game unplayable, and that's a very rare case.

I think this is the slowest download I've ever had on Live. Is it creeping along for anyone else?

Not yet. I only had a quick go with the Subaru using the wheel before switching to my joypad.

I'm off work with the shits today, so I don't really want to have to physically exert myself any more than twitching my thumbs to play games.

    /opposite-locks around hairpin
    /squirts poo into trousers

I'll check out the wheel options later.

Bah! Well, WarlockUK has stolen my copy anyway so even if I was inclined to try again with Dead Rising, I couldn't. :)

Yes. It's right in the middle of the screen. I actually managed to eventually ignore it and start enjoy Dead Rising. Although short, I can't say I've played any game 3 times all the way through and enjoyed it so much. Also, there is no fix and the workaround (50Hz/60Hz) doesn't work for me.

Dead Rising only tears excessively with VGA if the resolution is set to 1360x768. If you set it to 1280x720, it plays exactly the same as it does with component video @ 720p, i.e. with minimal tearing as I was playing the game last night. I almost gave up on it at 1360x768 until I remembered reading from someone who said it was fixed by lowering the resolution to 720p standard... lo and behold, it actually works and the image quality looks the same anyway! :)

Crazy slow here as well - it's taken about 30 minutes to get to 10%.

Altho' this might be due to BT's total inability to provide anything even resembling a decent broadband service for more than three minutes at a time.

    Tossers.

OK - looking at the wheel options now and it seems pretty decent.

    Steering deadzone
    Steering saturation
    Acceleration pedal deadzone
    Acceleration pedal saturation
    Brake pedal deadzone
    Brake pedal saturation

    Force strength
    Friction strength
    Effects strength

    All buttons are customisable too.

YOU are the developer... the big climactic boss battle drops to 15 fps with v-sync enabled.

    Do you

    a) disable v-sync, and have tearing during the boss battle instead

    b) Reduce the poly count in the boss and remove the amazing lighting effects on his massive laser beam attack?

    (b)

Do I get a prize for guessing the right answer? ;)

Cool... this comes from the xbox.com forums:
the game is awesome so far, its fun, looks great and making a few adjustments to the steering wheel settings make this game an absoloute blast to play. dont judge the game untill youve messed with the settings for the wheel, it makes a HUGE difference and the handling is greatly improved.

My impression of the demo is that they should have programed at least 3.7 v-sync pixel emulator running a variable 40-50fps frame buffer that converges 8ms runtime video F-type gamma partical megawatt unit aspect ratio.

I just tried a couple of races with the deadzone increased to 5% and the steering saturation dropped to 70% and it was noticeably better, but still not quite right.

I'll have a proper tinker tonight and post my settings if I manage to find anything that works well.

Ok so posting about the tearing that may or may not exist in a game no-one has managed to download yet is more useful?
