As for not buying it because of the US voiceovers, jesus people. How does your face feel without that nose?
Oh please. Consider for a moment the possibility that different people like different games for different reasons. The relocation of the voices and hence the attitude of the game to America strips out the vast majority of what made me play this game over any other 'serious' driving game (which I generally don't get along with). As such, it's lost all interest for me.
If you had valid reasons why the core of this game was compromised, you know the actual game play .. the bit that you play, I might have sympathies. You don't, you have managed to focus on one tiny aspect of a game (let's just linger on that word for a few more moments shall we?) which does not affect the way it plays (another brief moment thank you). That is utter madness. You're actually suggesting you played previous Colin McRaes simply because of the british voiceovers (or lack of any)?

Each to his own I guess.

Yes it has been compromised. They added in games modes a lot of CMR fans really couldn't give a shit about, at the expense of the crux of the series that has made it so popular - rallying. Purely to appeal to the Yanks just because of one fucking gimmicky X-Games event.

Or don't any of you understand this? It's not just about the fucking announcer.

    Fucks sake....

    It still has rallying.

Don't you dare try to be reasonable! There's frothing at the mouth to be done here! ;)

It's a fair enough point, though. If they hadn't bolted on all this (to fans of CMR) extreaneous stuff then maybe the core rallying experience would have been better.

But knowing a thing or two about game development, I think it's more likely that they nailed the core physics and handling for the rallying and then just adapted those sub-systems relatively cheaply for the other modes. The benefit of using modular software and powerful physics is that you can add on all these extra features fairly easily.

As I say, let's judge the game on its own merits when it comes out. I'm sure the EG review will have no problem pulling it up on any shortcomings it may or may not have in the final analysis.

I love the game but I definetly wont be buying this cause apparently it has no head to head online racing which is poor, just going to wait for sega rally revolution instead atleast you can race online properly in that

You people do know, I take it, that rally does not have head to head racing!

Only special stages like the ones in the game.

Its all about you versus the course and the clock.

Few things noted about this demo whilst driving around the wrong way a few hundred times:

Graphics are lovely - real time shadows around the cockpit look fab
Course is very 'smashable' and it remembers the damage lap on lap
It's really hard to total your car

I agree. But if previous CMCs are anything to go by, your 3rd point will change drastically with the difficulty settings :)

Played this for about an hour or so again last night and I'm beginning to warm to it.

I think the timed online races could be fun but not as much as side-by-side could be (especially the buggy, big van and toca like races).

yes i thought that might be the case. I literally drove around for about half an hour smashing in to everything as fast as possible (i even bent one of the barriers in to the other side of the track!) but it wouldnt die, seemed the only way was to smash a wheel off!
Also, the brakes seem way to good

I liked the demo, but agree about the American voiceover. Completely unnecessary, shoehorned in for no good reason, horrible.

    heh.
I enjoy the inside view when the car/buggy flips and rolls.
    /bokes out window

yeah the brakes are a bit too good, but I still think there is some skill to ripping around the course as fast as you can.

Needs more work but I did enjoy it loads and I think the special stage (beside one rival) was pretty hectic to go around in good time.

    /still hoping

Codemasters games havent been selling too well recently.

America is the largest games market.

If McRae cracks america the codies can produce more games and make the next McRae game bigger and better.

    The above = Good Reason

Would you rather have an american voice or no game?

I couldnt care less if the menus were voiced in Japanese by the guy who did 'KANEDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA', if the game is still produced by the codies and its, you know, good.

I think I already answered that one. ;)

But then I won't miss it especially. Racing games = all the same.

I'd left this thread and my argument alone. I'm fine that other people like it, I've said my bit. It's you that KEEPS bringing me to book like you're trying to prove something about me.
    Erm, I did it twice.

I don't fancy you or anything.
    Twice is more than once.

Well English isn't my first language and I am all the more used to American English than British English. Burn me if you want but I actually prefer American English. British sounds, well, awkward.

Nevertheless the voice in Dirt is atrocious.

It's not so much that it's an american voiceover on a brit-developed game (nothing new), it's that it's such a WANKER doing the WANKER voiceover.

Handling was crap though, game's shit.

A big plus one from me.

Surely they must have realised at some point.

Dev1 - "You know what Tony? This game is actually shite."

Dev2 - "Yeah, looks nice though."

The demo of this did not really do it for me and also Flatout 2 is arriving later this month and I am sure that will be a better game for me.
