@Duffking to be honest frame drops have never bothered me in any games from memory.

It really depends on the speed of the game, generally. Links Awakening is quite slow paced, mechanically, which probably explains why performance didn't dramatically influence the review scores. Anything more fluid, or requiring quick reactions, well a 50% drop in frames is going to hurt a lot.

How does one get to the colour dungeon?

Hang on. If I trade the shovel for the boomerang, can I get another shovel later because I need it to dig for shells?

In this version of the game, I think you can buy back whatever item you exchange.

Ah yeah it says that now I've progressed the conversation. Cheers.

    Hm, shovel or boomerang...

In the original (which is all I'm going off, I haven't got the remake yet), the boomerang was the best weapon in the game.

It also appears invaluable for the face shrine

@askew once you have the pegasus boots head to the library in the town you started the game in, that should set you on its trail

As an FYI there is absolutely no point in doing the whole figurine-on-pedestal thing they’ve added into the game. The reward is a massive discount in the crane game, which you exhaust of worthwhile items well before that

I completed the eagle tower yesterday. Wow! It took me several sessions to figure it out, but it feels so good when you finally do! (I refuse to use a guide. I could do this 20 years ago without one, so I'm not going to use one now).
Also, before that I spent a large part of the weekend searching for the frog. Turned out I totally missed one (very obvious) area. On the positive side this means that I now have over 40 seashells and 16 hearts ;)

The biggest "fucking hell I'm so stupid" moment in this game for little me was being trapped in one room with a closed door and nothing else except a bunch of stupid pots. I tried bombing every wall, shooting arrows everywhere, playing the stupid flute.

And then in frustration I picked up a pot and chucked it at the door. I felt so smart, but mostly so very dumb.
I hope that room is still there.

@Mola_Ram - It's still there. I think I had a similar experience, only I figured out what to do as soon as I destroyed the last pot ;) There is a huge hint though: These doors have the picture of a pot on them.

Hah I got stuck in a very similar way :)

I also went on a pot smashing frenzy in the face shrine, only to realise that I needed one of the pots to do something.

Just got to the eagle tower now.

I can't bloody remember where I need to go back to use the hookshot to get to hard to reach places either.

I finally started playing this last night. As with most old games, it's refreshing to play something that's mechanically very simple. It's so easy to pick up and get into. The frame rate drops are, at least for me, very noticeable though. It's pretty much every happening every 20-30 seconds, which I can fully understand is off-putting. The thing is, if it were a locked 30fps, it wouldn't even be an issue!

Anyways, I'm really enjoying it. The original is in my all-time top 10, for sure. This makes the game look a whole lot nicer and more accessible, too. I did notice that the save file logs your death count! I'm not looking forward to that later on.

I also managed to complete the 2nd dungeon in such a way I can't access a locked chamber by the entrance. I've completely run out of keys. I hope there's not a seashell in there, otherwise I've pooped it!

There is something about the performance that really stands out in this game. For a start it seems to be double or triple buffered or whatever technique that means if it can't make 60fps it drops way down to 30. It's definitely related to scene transitions so it's probably some sort of background streaming thing.

For the people that have issues, is it installed on the internal memory card, additional memory card or cartridge? I'm quite curious about this now as mine seems to run absolutely fine. I've got it on an additional memory card.

Are there different Switch revisions in the wild that have different clock speeds or anything like that? It's either that, or the installation medium like quaddy suggests. What's happening on mine should be noticeable to everybody IMO - whether it actually bothers people or not is a different thing, but I just can't imagine anybody not noticing it full stop.

Unless people are playing docked and have motion smoothing enabled on their TV or some shite, in which case they really have no business discussing video game performance :)

It's not really bothering me as much as I'm making out. It's just curious as a Nintendo game to have such obvious performance problems when they achieved a locked 60 on Mario Kart and Odyssey etc. on the same system

EDIT: I think I'd probably prefer a different performance profile where the game teared slightly or something rather than drop to 30

Anyway. How does this game compare to LttP? I'm gonna be honest I've never clicked with that game, yet this has got me hook line and sinker. Tempted to give it another try after this.

If you have access to a 3DS, you might be better off trying Link Between Worlds - that's basically a modern reimagining of LttP. As someone who never played LttP back in the day, I found it much easier to play.

LttP's progression is actually rather diferent, once you get your sword and shield you can basically visit the whole map right off the bat. It doesn't gate areas behind items quite so much and dungeons typically use only a single item rather than the whole gamut.

It's a bit more clunky to play but on the other hand interesting dungeons start to hit far earlier. It's a great game but a tad clunky if you come to it late. I recommend ALBW instead as well maybe though Psiloc. It's way more accessible today.
