Messenger texting

Doing something for work, and the idea of MSN style messenger texting on mobiles has come up. Does anyone do this?

More specifically, are there phones/networks that make it really easy for you to have a chat with a mate who's signed into messenger?

I have msn mobile messenger on my 3 mobile phone and its free I just sign in like I do on the pc and text away.

I use msn mobile. But only when my mobile is connected to a wifi network.
