Age of Empires is good but a bit easy. Or stupidly hard. No middle ground.

Anno1701 is meant to be very good.

    Try out Advance Wars.

Was there not some WWII hex type war game (Panzer General-ish) mooted for the DS a million years ago?

Panzer Tactics. That seems to be finished (I seem to recall from an interview with the devs) and is currently being munched over by the producers and up for release in Q3.

Same here. I've been following the progress of this game for ages now. It would be a great addition to the DS.

Anno 1701 on the PC is supurb. I don't know how well it'll translate to the DS, though.

Has anyone tried Rondo of Swords or Knights in the Nightmare yet? I've exhausted most of the UK released stuff and am now eyeing up an import or two.

Think I've lost count long ago. Got, or going to get:

    Advance Wars (both)
    Front Mission
    Luminous Arc 1&2
    Panzer Tactics
    Rondo of Swords
    Diagaea
    Drone Tactics
    Hoshigami
    Fire Emblem
    FFTA2

What am I missing in terms of DS strategy titles?

I've ordered JA, it's in the mail.

I thought Valkyrie Profile was a PSP title? DS remake? I shall prop open my eyes, cheers Frayed.

No, it's original. Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume to give it it's full title. It's rather excellent.

There is a NEW anno game out which I must get at some point

the original DS game consumed my soul for a good few days

Age of Empires Mythogies is pretty good.

Has anyone played Tom Clancy's EndWar? Looks like an AW clone on the handheld versions.

If (like me) you're an addict for portable battlefield shenanigans, older PSP games are so cheap now that it's worth buying one just for FFT, JD, R-type tactics, Mytran Wars, Yggdra Union etc.

  • Deleted user 11 June 2009 19:58:31
    Now there's a good point.
    Shining Force GBA
    both FE games
    FFT advance
    AW2

    Got those! :-D

There are some really good turn-based battlers for the PSP, aye. The Metal Gear Acids, Jeanne D'Arc, etc.

Never heard of Mytran Wars though, will add it to the list.

I have it, pretty much a straight port of the original, unless my memory is playing tricks on me. Works well on the DS, though it can sometimes feel like hard work moving your team around the place. Certainly feels like a game from a less streamlined, user friendly age. I am enjoying it, but it does require a degree of patience.
