Not really. It's all up here. Pac-man: The use as external memory. I mean, I'd probably argue the opposite if I had kids or something equally interesting, but I don't. |

I'd be fucking disappointed too if my book looked like that. As a matter of fact, I'd expect the cover to be solid black and possibly have my printed cover picture pasted on, like with the hard bound books.
I know, but nothing you've said changes the fact that you won't get a rich solid black from a laser print.
It's the same tech as a colour photocopy.
If it's going to be as streaky as that, it should be just as streaky in the template if it's such a known fact as you claim.
Don't get me wrong, I agree entirely. I was disappointed when I got my first one done. There's no way Apple should use a black - or for that matter, any solid colour as a template.
Even with things as small as Business Cards, any half decent printer will recommend against using solid colours unless you are printing litho. -

Registered 20 years agoMoo cards are ace - I've been using a set of them as impromptu business cards for a while. They're remarkably good at getting you photography jobs out of people you didn't even know needed any photography done

Don't you have to tie them up and then use the cards to paper-cut them between their fingers, though?

Flickr is a right pain in the arse once you've got your own webspace to air your photos in.

Registered 16 years agoI've just done calendars as Christmas gifts for members of my family, and Christmas cards of various sorts with Apple.
I done it last year too, and everyone who received them was very impressed, as was I. -

Hmm. I've got my own webspace, but personally find flickr much more convenient to use, and also I can integrate the photo streams into my own site if I want. I just use flickr uploadr, queue them all up and pick a maximum size, and let it get on with it.
From a front-end perspective, sure - it's a little bit slow, I spose. -

My moo cards are here!
And they're going straight back!
Because they look like shit!
Great!
I don't remember ticking a box to choose to have my images printed with hardly any saturation. GRRRRR. -

That's not really a valid critcism; you don't have to use those features. -

True. But you're not really using Flickr for anything other than archiving if you don't, really, especially if you have your own space like I said above. Flickr's great, but for me, these days, it's a really faff to make the most of it.

Having said that I've had a fair bit of work through it so I should probably upload that folder of 70-100 images and get on with tagging them...!

By the way, Apple refunded my money in the first reply to my email that I sent via their Photobook customer service page - didn't even ask to see the photos I'd taken.
They say they'll be looking into it. In the meantime I'd like to use them again to make some nice little 'portfolio' books but if their soft covers are that shit there's no way. Hardbound is too expensive and unnecessary for a 30 page portfolio book. -

Registered 18 years agoI wouldn't bother printing folio books with iPhoto if I were you. AFAIK, only the Aperture books are anywhere near pro standard for quality.
Sounds like you got a bad job, but however many times they print it, you won't get solid colours - it just isn't possible. -
I ordered iPhoto calendars last week, for Christmas. They're here already - four working days later!
THEY ARE GORGEOUS
I am stunned by how good they look!
I'm going to clean up this Christmas, I will be hero-worshipped by both sets of grandparents. -
I should pipe up here to say I got that shit photobook replaced by Apple for free and the replacement was just as fucked so I got that one replaced too and the replacement was just as fucked so I've lost the enthusiasm for them now. I'm assured that a fire was well and truly lit under the arses of the company providing the large softback books, and that the problem never affected other sizes, and that detailed QA has stamped the problem out completely now, though.
I've got an offer of a free photobook of any size and format, and pretty much any price, though.

Registered 20 years agoOrdered a hardback 20 page photobook last night. It's quite exciting isn't it. I've not seen one yet so I can only go by what I've read on here and the apple site. Wonder how long it will take . . . -

Registered 15 years agoWas thinking about getting my favourite shots of last year done as a photo book - thought it'd be neater than having a load of 5x7" prints lying around, so had a look at photobox this morning.
Apparently they've got a 25% off January sale on at the moment, which also covers the photo books - expires tonight at midnight. Bit short notice but someone might be able to make use of it.
Have ordered a 40 page classic photo book - hardback. Cost £24.48 including VAT & PP with the discount. No idea what the quality will be like, but seemed worth taking a chance, allegedly 3 day turnaround, so should be with me some time next week. -
Thanks for the heads up on that sale, time to get this year's calendar done methinks. -

Registered 17 years agoI've just done a couple of calendars, they're doing 20% off which ends 29th Feb, same with the books.
The voucher code comes up once you've finished and are purchasing. -
Someone's been trying to click the link I posted waaay back about my awful photobooks but I took the page down ages ago, sorry.
Anyway, I just spent £90 on a 56 page extra large hardbacked photobook from Apple and it was worth every single penny. Beautifully bound with proper stripey fabric, pages are all great quality paper, the cover I designed is printed both on the hardback cover itself and the dust cover, and it's all inside a stiff white card sleeve. And it's bloody big. Very pleased.
