I've been offered either of these as a free upgrade from my k750i on Vodaphone. Anyone got good/bad reports/experiences with either? I've read Mapsters thread, but thats just a fanboy love in ![]() I'm not too worried about having a (possibly dodgy) joystick on the 800 as I understand SE will repair it for 2 years which will cover me till my next upgrade anyway. Looking around the net, it basically boils down to if music or photos are my main priority. To be honest, I'm not fussed either way, both are nice but one isnt more important than the other and the k750i's mp3 playback is fine for me. Couple of questions for anyone who has either - does the k800i have a slot for Memory Stick Pro? The 850i comes with a 1GB M2 card, unlike the k800i but I currently have a 512mb MS card anyway so its not a problem. Do either/or have radio? |

Registered 19 years agoK800 has a slot for M2 cards only, and yes it has radio but you need to have a headset plugged in at the time. -

Registered 18 years agoI think both have radio, don't take my word on that tho.
I think the 800i also takes M2. I seem to remember being a bit annoyed because I couldn't use my 2GB Duo with it. Personally I'd plump for an 800i because I've got an iPod anyway. Camera is more important than music for me. -

Registered 20 years agoboth have radio, as I recall the w850i has RDS whereas the k800 doesn't.
Headphones are superb on the w850, it takes mem stick pro (comes with a 1 gig card)
the music interface on the w850 is better.
If its any help, I had both, I kept the k800 for a month and the w850 for 5. -

Registered 18 years agoThis would be such an easy decision if the 800 took Memory Stick. The autofocus sounds lubbly.
Still, at least it doesnt sound like the 850 is a poor relation.
Anyone know if theres any DRM issues on Vodaphone with either? With my 750i I had to get it unlocked before it wanted to play nice with mp3. -

Registered 18 years agoI concur that the 850i earphones are superb. The photo quality isn't shabby either.
One bad experience though was that all the DRM tunes that I downloaded are now locked out thanks to a bug in the phone. -

Registered 17 years agoOnly annoyance with my W850i is that the orange 'walkman' buttony strip thing that triggers the MP3 player is so close to the 'up' key that I often trigger it entirely accidentally.
I'm fairly sure there's an option to disable it, but it's still a bloody stupid design decision. Other than that, the phone's OK.

I like the 850i but would have prefered the k800i as I don't use the walkman. -

Registered 15 years agoIt depends. Audio or camera more important?
K800i has zoom, a better quality camera, and some better photo software. It takes M2 micro-sized memory cards, which are awkward and pretty expensive. Oh, and the adaptor supplied won't let it fit in a Memory Stick crad reader bay, which is odd. My mother in law has one.
W850i, which I own, has no camera zoom, a cack 2MP camera, and fantastically easy audio features. It uses Pro Duo like the PSP, and as such memory is cheap. Mine came with 1GB too, which was nice.
So there. If you can get the 880i, though, do it. Reviews of all are on here.
Quick edit: M2 comes with a convertor to make it Pro Duo. So, to put it in a card reader, you put the M2 in the Pro Duo adapter, then that into a memory stick adapter... which is stupid.

I've got my new KU990 and I want to unlock my K800i to sell to a friend, O2 say they'll do it but it costs £15 and takes 21 days :/
Anyone know of a better, quicker, cheaper (free!) solution? -

Registered 15 years agoI've had the W850i for a year and I really didn't get on with it. Everything just feels clunky compared to my old K750i - and like Phattso I hate the Walkman button too but I have the fingers of a svelte needle threading champion. Also, the key lock kept failing and I'd find the mobile internet on when I got my phone out.
I'd totally avoid it TBH. -

Registered 16 years agounlocking a k800i (and lots of the new SE phones) is notoriously hard due to CID 52 security on the phones... just to warn ya.. they can be unlocked, its just harder..and thus more expensive.. i'm currently trying to find the cheapest way to do it -

Registered 15 years agoI've got a W850i, and can say...
The biggest difference is K800 has a great camera, and one takes Pro Duo, the other M2. That's it.
Take the K800i. -

K800i is still superb, the newer version looks ugly and doesn't do anything new
The K800i is still a great phone despite being voer 18 months old, and blows 90% of "new" mobiles out of the water. -
