    @quadfather I use this, which is fucking immense, but you might not want to spend this much: https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Tech-21-Sansamp-Bass-Driver-DI-V2/1MK3?origin=product-ads&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzZjE0oqv4wIViZntCh0t2gocEAQYDCABEgJ4rvD_BwE

    I've seen quite a few folk use these though, dunno if it's more what you're after: https://www.dv247.com/en_GB/GBP/Behringer-Ultra-DI-100-active-DI-Box/art-PAH0000110-000?campaign=GShopping/UK&ProgramUUID=HADAqJarPzAAAAFlea9yjI.G&campaign=GShopping/UK&programuuid=HADAqJarPzAAAAFlea9yjI.G&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzZjE0oqv4wIViZntCh0t2gocEAQYDiABEgIl__D_BwE

    I do apologise for sullying this thread with bass talk but I'm hopefully picking up one of these in a few weeks:
    https://www.guitarinteractivemagazine.com/issues/issue-37/reviews/sandberg-electra-vs4/

    I've always wanted a Sandberg but there's no way I can ever afford a California, this is their budget range, built in Korea but assembled at Sandberg in Germany with their usual high quality control. Quite why I need another bass is beyond me, it's not like I can play more than one at once.

    It was a toss-up between this and a Fender MiM Players P Bass but the Sandberg appeals more.

    Nice one boss. I was reading that sansamp one but yeah, the price was putting me off. The behringer one is probably more my level I think

    @wuntyphyve

    What do you need another bass for?

    Although saying that, I have 3 now haha.

    Do they do a fretless one of those Sandberg? Thatd be nice

    @quadfather because 6 apparently isn't enough ha ha. Hell, may as well have one for each day of the week.

    I don't have much experience of DI boxes but like I say I've seen that behringer one knocking about on the live and studio circuit on quite a few occasions so it may do the job...

    Their basses are fucking beautiful and you can fully customise them (including making them fretless): https://configurator.sandberg-guitars.de/

    Oooohhh if I was a rich man... The shit I would buy...

    @wuntyphyve

    Haha

    Cool, I might give the behringer a go. A few of us have started renting out an office in a mainly unused building which has no neighbours, so we can go mental in there at a high volume, so I need to have a cleaner signal from my bass.

    I might just customise one of those Sandberg's just for shits and giggles.

    Though I have to buy some double bass strings soon. And you can imagine how much those fuckers cost :/

    My custom Sandberg is a snip at a mere 1933 euros. Wonder if they do credit :D

    I already declared that I'm going to buy an Epi LP. I just unexpectedly received a €2,500 reward and now I'm afraid I can't go to the guitar shop.

    If you're just starting out it's good enough. I started playing with a similar one and it's still playing just fine :)

    I'm not, it's just that with this much money suddenly on my account going to the guitar shop seems like a very bad idea

    I think that's a bot responding to the thread title. At least he didn't mention commas.

    You should buy a €2,300 PRS and spend the last €200 on having the birds replaced with trapezoids.

    Get the birds wired up so they illuminate when plugged in, also have the words I HAVE A PRS BITCHES written in luminous ink on the body

    It’d be hard to stay away from the 2019 Gibson’s with that much filthy lucre swilling around.

    I would just like to say "hello" to the bassists who have joined the thread.

    Also, has anyone got much experience with hollow-body guitars, like the ES-335?

    Owners of a Player series Tele with HH pickups (think there are a couple in this thread): how usable is it in coil split mode? Does it get anywhere near an actual single coil Tele?

    Now thinking I could trade in my single coil Squier Tele and get one guitar covering multiple bases.

    @monkman76

    I have one.

    It's very usable, tonally I really like the Player HH pickups - as humbuckers they've got a decent amount of drive, but they clean up nicely if you back the volume off. The single coil mode is bright and clear.

    It's a very solid all-round guitar.

    @Drakesmoke I'm keen to know how it is tonally & playability-wise compared to a solid body. Just general impressions, really.

    What upgrades did you make, and why?

    @MikeP

    No problem.

    I picked this one because I didn't have Gibson money and it's an upgrade over the Dot (better pickups and block inlays).

    It had a long style 335 pickguard with a like a bog standard Les Paul style bracket. The long pickguard isn't incorrect but the bracket is. Real Gibsons have a sort of fine mandolin style bracket, and I also wanted the short/fat guard so that was replaced. Also replaced the knobs etc to look more sixties.

    Replaced the stock bridge for a wide APBR style and replaced the posts for the bridge with more visually correct Gibson style ones (you can get converters). The bridge is an upgrade. More resonant and better built, and more room or intonation.

    The posts more aesthetic, arguably they are less functional than the originals as you can't adjust them with a screwdriver (thumbwheels only) but they look more 'right'. And that's what counts lol.

    All the circuitry has been replaced with full fat CTS pots, orange drop caps, braided wiring etc. This guitar has coil split, I've had that swapped so the bridge pickup is now a pull/push for phase reversal in the middle position (honky - think Peter Green or some Freddie King tones with his varitone switching).

    Tusq nut, left the tuners, they're fine. Fret level. Nut and frets are always the area that needs most work on a Epi and really account for probably 70 per cent of the improvements here.

    @MikeP

    Continuing the 335 talk. Playability, it has a better neck in some respects than my Les Pauls. Certainly better upper fret access. I don't believe it has a longer scale but weirdly it feels a bit in between Gibbo scale and Fender to the hands. The neck profile is nice, it has quite a flat back and noticeable shoulders, different to my other guitars.

    Unplugged tone is more pleasing than other electrics. You get this pleasing 'thunk' when you pick a single note, and obviously chords ring nicely.

    Plugged in, they're not a million miles from a Les Paul, less muscle and more openness. Sort of straddling the line between a Les Paul and a Tele in the middle position maybe?

    People are sometimes put off because they look big. However, they are thin guitars, they are only big in area and in reality most of that will just sit past your elbow! It's more like holding a wider Tele than holding a dreadnought for example.

    The neck feels less solid than my solids, you can get vibrato by flexing the neck.

    Hope this helps. If you like nice tones and/or bluesy stuff, definitely worth having one. They do feel different and inspire a different sort of touch!
