@sport punk died a long time ago. Daft is still very much with us (hell just look at TikTok). Makes sense that he survived.

I mean see Daft Punk live, not take your boy to see them.
    😃

And thanks for the link. I was going to search it up.

Got to see them at Glasto in, i think, 1996 after Homework came out and though it wasn't the full AV experience they developed it was mind-blowing for an impressionable 16-year-old.

    '97!

I can't say that I was massively into Daft Punk to be sad that they have split, but at the same time Discovery constantly span inside my CD player for a long time when it was released. Thinking I must have been 15/16 when it released. Definitely left a mark on me. Just for some reason or another I never followed it up by exploring older albums or keeping up with new releases. I was just happy with Discovery. It was also an album that my flat mate at university was massively into, our mutual like for it was one of the reasons why we probably became good friends (and the fact we lived in the same flat..but still). So it holds good memories.

Daft Punk are one of the few electronic records I can put on without my wife and kids grumbling, so its on quite a lot round these parts. This is sad news.

Although that said, I think theyd peaked a while back, and Id generally much prefer if bands quit while they were ahead, so its probably for the best.

Their influence outside of Daft Punk will remain immense. The Weeknd for example sounds like a completely different musician ever since they did a couple of songs for him.

And their work on Kanye's Yeesus album was easily the best thing about it.

I can see them showing up on albums from time to time (using their real names) and generally shaping popular music from the shadows for years to come.

But am just sad to see them go, felt they had more to give as a band. If I had to list my top 3 albums, Discovery is in there easily :(

Not surprised at all, they're well into their 60s now.

    They're 46 and 47.

Same age as a large chunk of people on this forum.

My bet is by summer everybody will have forgotten and the people making new music will be the sound of the summer.
