He does use a spreadsheet. Just not the one we all use.

@thelzdking Very interesting. Is this a private enterprise or a local authority type effort? Are you a cartographer or similar? I suppose not if you're having to get Old Bilbo out with a theodolite...

@Nexus_6 it's for a government agency, and it has legal ramifications. Definitely very interesting, but less so thanks to infuriating Mapping Person. I'm not a cartographer, but I have a working understanding of mapping and GIS.

Yes, we all play quidditch with the Hobbits here. Tyrone Lanister is team captain for the Avenger Hobbits.

And Mapping Person is still not looking at the spreadsheet. He questioned the purpose of the maps today. He knows best.

You don't need maps, just feel your way through. Open your heart man.

If I open my heart then Mapping Person will probably tell me that the scale is all wrong and that it needs a topographic basemap to work properly.

So Sky have stopped their Never Miss service, the only useful thing they had on their website. It was helpful for catching new series, and now they want you to use their top picks which misses most of the interesting stuff. Wankers.

What the fuck have they done to fruit pastilles? I remember the sugar on the outside and sweet chewy goodness. Tastes like they sprinkle it with flower now :-(

    It's a fucking outrage I tell you!

When you're pointing at something on a screen there's no need to actually touch the screen and get your greasy fucking finger marks all over it. Why do people do this?

In my case it is to leave finger prints to show I died from furiously masturbating, and not because an unknown intruder ripped my cock off whilst trying to insert it in my throat.

Iíve had someone poking my screen at work with the writing end of a biro.
They keep their mitts well away from it now!

For the record it's Mapping Person that's doing this. I'm having to sit next to him and force him to do exactly what it says in the spreadsheet.

Poke him in the eye every time he pokes the screen.

This seems to be the preserve of the very old (who still don't understand how those computermotators work) and the very young (who can't cope with the concept of a screen that isn't a touchscreen).

My laptop has a touchscreen too, so it's extra annoying as he keeps fucking up the spreadsheet every time he points at it. Maybe that's his plan.

I wish I could poke him in the eye.

If you want to really wind him up, you could tell him my story about the time we were contracted to do work for a client with a big media profile and got a request to make a change to a map 5 minutes before it had to be sent to the BBC so they could use it as a graphic on the evening news. This was a good few years ago.

With none of our specialists aroumd (they were all out getting drunk to celebrate the end of that project), I did the edits myself. I did them in MS Paint. They got used.

My toes still curl thinking about that.

No lockdown over here, which is a shame because otherwise I wouldn't have to be anywhere near him.

I'm probably going to have to edit a lot of the text with Acrobat.

I used WordArt in a last-minute ministerial brief (after a significant incident in another country) because the senior civil servant whom I was assisting a) didn't really know how to use Word and b) liked WordArt.

@thelzdking That'll be fun. Acrobat editing always leads to wonderfully polished results.

As an epilogue to my story above, the result was that 48 hours later, I had one of our mappers (we have a team of them) screaming in my face about the fact that I'd used MS Paint on something to go on TV, rather than calling him back from the pub (which would have taken too long).

Not sure any real people actually noticed. All I'd done had been draw a few rings on a map to highlight the bits that were actually relevant for the story.

Mappers are an odd bunch. But not as odd as the people who design road signs.

That lot scare the fuck out of me.

MS Paint? What were you thinking?

Although using GIMP, I think I'd have taken 5 hours to draw a circle.
