I'm not watching them. I hate them all with great prejudice. They justify nuclear proliferation.

@thelzdking Don't worry, it's only 18 months until the "Total Ownership of Person" clause in the TikTok EULA kicks in and everybody who's ever uploaded a video to it is shipped off to a Chinese forced-labour camp.

Darn kids and their new fangled hobbies. Back in my day you had to make do with throwing lumps of dirt from bridges at cars passing underneath.

Bloody hell, last night it sounded as if half my neighbourhood decided to have parties, BBQs or whatnot.
None of them were excessively loud but put together there were numerous noisy moments - bursts of laughter, windows being opened to have a smoke, etc - all throughout the night (until around 6am!), particularly since noise has a tendency to reverberate quite a bit around here.

Man this epic game store launcher is absolutely embarrassing. Haven't used it in a while so it wants to update. Update fails numerous times. Finally launches. Black screen. Have to force close. Relaunch. Random error message. Relaunch. Works.

Add to that you have to log in every fucking time you want to use it (I have remember me ticked and it hasn't saved my password once), there's no controller support, the UI is really slow, no achievements, it all looks like shit, game updates are massive, it spams your windows notification area with adverts. It's so bad. Might just delete the whole fucking thing.

I even hate the name of it. 'EPIC GAMERSZ¬!!!!'. It sounds like a CoD clan for spotty 14 year old lads.

    /end of rant

I've only ever had it on one machine ages ago and it must have had some sort of bug at the time, because it ate resources like nothing else. I imagine whatever bug caused that must've been fixed by now as more tech savvy people than me would've noticed the severe effect it had on performance.

I think it's OK on resources to be fair.

I don't mind having an alternative or two to steam for competition, but it's so shit. It's like using steam in 2007. I have to use DS4Windows for any games, whereas in 2007 I would have used Xpadder or something.

I don't remember steam being so buggy either, ever. Anyway, I'll just pretend it doesn't exist for another 6 months until they sort it. I'm sure they'll catch up.

@Steve-Perry I literally only got it for the free titles.

    Edit: posting weirdness...
Edit 2: GOG now do Epic integration as well, maybe an alternative for you?

@Steve-Perry I'm not promising anything, I've only seen an announcement about it on GOG recently but have no idea how it works nor whether it's any good.

I suspect you'll still need to buy/claim the games directly off EGS but you could maybe use their web site for that? (again, not tried it myself)
If that + GOG integration works you wouldn't have to deal with the EGS desktop app at all anymore...

Had no particular issues with the Epic Launcher itself (bar GTA V week). Remebers logins, no black screens, far less sluggish than the PS4 store... I do use an XBOne controller though so probably better integrated with games by default.

I can confirm that you can claim the free games on the website though as I do it sometimes. Never tried the GOG Galaxy integration with Steam and Epic, not sure what the point is really...

The EGS client is ok for me these days. It lacks loads of the features we take for granted on Steam, but it's easy to use, doesn't hog resources and basically works. Big improvement from 12 months ago.

Plus Epic have switched from a supplier-based strategy of just buying up exclusives to a consumer-based one of giving free shit away. That's a good thing.

I love Epic Games launcher (because free stuff), only downsides are that it constantly forgets my login and the adverts it puts in the corner of the screen are a pain to dismiss. But can't argue with all the freebies and download speeds which pretty much always saturate my broadband connection.

Well there's one thing that really sucks about it and that's that downloads are cancelled when closing the launcher, i.e. if you're downloading something that's 50gb large and you've already downloaded 20, you can't shut down your system because all will be lost if you do.

@DrStrangelove I don't think that's true. I went to bed before both GTA5 and Ark downloaded, turned off my laptop and resumed the next day from several tens of jiggerbytes in with no issue.

    @nudistpete

I tried it earlier to be sure. It explicitly told me that if I close Epic now, my download will be cancelled. And it was, after restarting it started from 0.

Is it an option perhaps? I seem to remember that Steam has something of the sort, probably for those among us who have download limits. So the Epic Games app might have something similar.

There is no situation in the entire multiverse when you'd want your download to restart from 0.
