Going back to the EGS talk. I find it ok for the most part. Not having a cart/basket really gets on my massive tits though.

My housemate seems to *have* to put the light on in any room he goes in to. Even in the middle of the day, in bright sunshine. Feels like a huge waste of energy and daylight has far more lux than a stupid light.

It literally makes no difference to how much light is in the room largely. Just makes no sense to me.

Is it always out of money or just generally user-unfriendly?

@freddymercurystwin You've got my sympathy, for what that's worth.

I seem to be having a spell of bad luck.

First, my PC just hung all of a sudden yesterday and wouldn't even post on restart. After much faffing about it turns out one of my memory sticks has gone bad. It's in warranty, as it's a new PC, but I now have 1/2 of memory and have to go through the whole return/replace thing. I first have to figure out who I bought the memory from in the first place.

Then, still yesterday, as I was figuring out what memory to get for my home server, it randomly switched on reboot from regular SATA mode into some silly HP smart whatever mode and it wouldn't boot. That took me until just now to figure out and fix.

Earlier tonight, as I was getting ready to go out on the bike it turned out my front shifter had somehow got twisted on the vertical pipe and after I'd straightened it out it just doesn't align with the chain at all and I can't ride. I'm not too good with this sort of thing and I can't see an obvious reason why it's like that now so I'll need to take it to the shop down the street hoping the very-busy-cause-it's-summer-guy finds 15 minutes to take a look at it.

    Rant over.

For God's sake, why is there no Youtube option to turn off autoplay in playlists? Usually this is a minor annoyance, but now that I'm using Chromecast to stream from phone it's a real nuisance because for whatever fucking reason in streaming mode the app doesn't simply play individual videos anymore, instead it automatically creates a playlist of everything you tap on. Why? What's the fucking point of this? What are they thinking?

And after years, they still haven't fixed the app's issue that it randomly turns on subtitles. For fuck sake Google, fix your broken shite

Youtubers filming themselves instead of providing footage of the matter at hand. One of the great things about videos is that you can provide information verbally while providing visual stuff to make it much more understandable what you're talking about. Yet there are many Youtubers, notably those with many views, who just film their face talking.

If you're trying to teach history, provide illustrations etc while explaining. That would help so much. Don't just film your face talking, or if you can't provide footage, make podcasts, not videos. If you're talking about coding, provide footage of the code or illustrations of what you're talking about, don't film yourself standing in the kitchen talking. I don't care about your narcissist BS, you're just wasting resources.

Yeah I know I can just stop watching that video, but the point still stands. Use the power of video for something useful or stop making videos.

Was in a relatively good mood after a shit few days, made myself a drink, picked it up and proceeded to have it slip out of my hand, all over my desk, me, my chair and my floor.

    Fucksake.

@Psychotext I did that on Saturday. It sucks. When your day goes suddenly from "let's have a nice drink" to "let's spend half an hour cleaning the carpet".

Everyone will have said this before, but YouTube's algorithm is absolutely terrifying.

I watch one video of cop bodycam shenanigans. ONE. Then I get a tonne of MAGA channels being recommended, Fuckcunt of Akkad, gun channels, Jordan Peterson...

It's genuinely unnerving/scary. Oh, you liek police? You must be KKK Trump man. Here, hav Tucker Carlson and Ben Shapiro. You can haz :)

It managed to ruin my mood and that of my missus (who is stroppy because she came to my aid).

    Bollocks to all of it.

Yep, I've recently started regularly deleting my browser history to reset the YT algorithm for this very reason. Wife is convinced it's cos I'm watching porn.

    Private windows, VPN and noscript.

Noscript basically breaks the internet, but after you've allowed the essential scripts on the pages you visit, it's so much better.

I keep getting recommendations for music videos by The Corrs on YT lately. I have no idea why, never searched for anything or watched anything from them (don't really care for them either way) or in the same genre. I wonder where the algorithm got that one from.

And it seems the algorithm also takes the time of day into account. I've noticed I get a lot of ASMR video recommendations when I browse YT at night.
Makes me wonder what else they've included.

Goodness, public works at their best again in the area where I live: for the 3rd or 4th time since the corona shenanigans started they're ripping open the pavement for whatever reason.
The previous public works I remember from before that go back at least 10 years. Well done, fellows. Especially since I'm pretty sure one of the subcontractors has been involved in each of the recent instances. I suppose you could argue going through the entire thing several times creates job security.

Also, it sounds like the earth is collapsing in on itself out there since about 7 in the morning. Good times.

Anyone here familiar with the Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD)? Basically every pack of drugs in the EU has a special 2D code on it that can be scanned to determine whether its real or not, has already been dispensed etc. We're one of the developers with a product on the shelves to do this.

Now the "big main server", the NMVS, requires four things to verify a dispensaries identity; a user ID, password, certificate file, and certificate passphrase. Only a real user would have these things and be able to provide them to our portal. Supporting this has been a nightmare but it is what it is.

If you don't upload these things, you get "No response".

"Stop scanning. There is a problem. Don't waste your time by scanning. You need to fix this first. STOP! None of what you're doing is going through! SERIOUSLY JUST FUCKING STOP!"

One of our clients, an NHS hospital, which has employed 1-3 full time staff JUST to perform this task has been getting this error. Since May last year. They continued scanning.

    95,000 packs.

My car offside mirror (just the mirror) decided to detach itself whilst driving into work this morning, I stomped on the brakes (there was no-one behind me) and pulled in to retrieve it hoping it would be in one piece - could I find it? Could I fuck!

So it would seem, I may pop back at the weekend, I would just get a replacement but it seems many of the non genuine replacements don't have the blind spot thing. I suspect a genuine one will be silly money.

@dominalien just twist the front derailleur until itís straight and parallel to the front chainring again. Make sure it still clears the teeth of the chainring by 2-4mm. If it doesnít then youíll need to loosen the bolt that attaches is and shuffle it up the seat tube.

Once straight, Wang the bolt up tight.
