    Linky

If you’ve seen "Transformers" by now, you've also seen a teaser trailer for the most secretive project in Hollywood, a movie called "Cloverfield", directed by JJ Abrahms and written by "Lost" writer Drew Goddard. The movie looks like a mix of Godzilla and Godzilla if he interrupted a party that someone was filming, but it's hard to say for sure because almost nothing is known about the movie. It's not even officially named Cloverfield yet, and the website is completely useless except for revealing the movies release date. It's also good if you want to stand naked and have awestruck girls staring up in astonished disbelief, but that gets boring after an hour or so.

JJ Abrahms really does get carried away with himself, doesn't he?

JJ Abrahms is the greatest no-talent spin dr known to man.

Jesus he really knows how to exploit the internet aswell. Make poeple think their clever by coming up with bullshit theories and "cracking" websites and they'll buy any old shite.

Still.. I quite like the hand held camera look of the film to be honest, I think thats the general idea, a high budget monster movie that looks like its filmed by hand.

    Could be cool.

I think the handheld camera thing is probably just an original way of doing a trailer. There isn't any indication that the whole film will be shot this way - As far as I know...

I'm pretty sure I read an interview somewhere in which Abrams said the whole idea was a monster movie in that style, to up the involvement and the realism stakes as it were.

A high budget Blair Witch type affair with no improv I guess :)

The CGI Statue of Liberty head sliding down the road looked pretty terrible, but I'm looking forward to the film.

I doubt it will look that bad in the final film, I remember the Hellboy teaser worryingly had plain white untextured Sammaels and they looked shit, but were sorted out nicely for the movie's release.

I reckon the monster in this movie is a giant Sta-Puft costume wearing Hurley, I think he's probably using some kind of cloaking device in the trailer.

Or maybe the effects aren't done yet and they're saving up for a load of PS3 Cell workstations so they can finish rendering the Hurley CGI in time for next May.

So what franchise do people think Abrahms is raping or do people think it's an original IP?

Yup, the marketing is lame, but the movie and the concept do sound interesting.
We know when it'll be out now, so we can just safely avoid the terisome "viral" marketing nonsense.

Out of interest, what's the point in an HD trailer for something that's filmed on a camcorder?

What Cloverfield ? Its an original IP I think. He is however now responsible for the Dark Tower saga.

Sorry I'm boycotting Abrams, Kurtzman and Orci work until they agree that they can not mess with sacred canon

Just to make something clear: Abrams is producing this, not writing or directing.

So if Lost is anything to go by there'll be a monster for the first five minutes and then they'll forget about it for the next two hours as they wander about in the forest fighting over guns and smack.
