Wow is this a film by the creators of Lost or something.

Not that I watch Lost. Or films.

Yes, it is. Mr Abrams is currently doing this, Lost and the Dark Tower series.

Im assuming thats Stephen Kings Dark Tower series. Am i right? If so, i dont know what to make of that news. Since the Dark Tower is not suitable for a book to film transfer imo.

You are right, and I would agree with you there, a series would have made alot more sense. Infact its about the only thing that could do them justice I reckon, but there you go, we'll just have to wait and see what they make of it. The first book could easily be made into a film ofcourse, but I cant possibly see how anyone could make a 2-3 hour film out of the frankly excellent, but huge and elaborate 'The Drawing of the Three', or the later books in the series really.

    :)

The page you linked has a link to the source of the image. It's a fan, working out his own ideas for the monster.

There wont be a moster, or atleast you wont see it. i recon they will have liitle bits shown as it moves but nothing full on like alien or godzilla etc etc just so you "use your imagination" and never know what it is, so it leaves you guessing the whole way.

    well thats my theory anyway.

I reckon they won't show anything at all, they'll just throw together some vague and random mystery that could mean absolutely anything, yet when it spirals into unexpected popularity suddenly come to the horrific realisation that this has dragged out for far too long and you're just making it up as you go along, with no actual meaning or ending in sight, leaving it entirely up to the Internet to add in the story as they see fit.

    ...

    Oh, hang about. That's Lost.

After watching the 1080 trailer on iTunes, my first reaction was 'Blair Witch Project crossed with the hollywood Godzilla.....looks shit....'.

I hope two negatives make a positive but it just looks absolutely gash.

Shaky cam, annoying characters and a monument destroying monster. I was looking forward to this, but it just seems like it has all the ingredients to be wank.

And I dont trust Abrams after the whole rabbits foot mega mcguffin.

overall i thought it was solid, definitely not great, and certainly not a genre redefinition. then again, my expectations were very high going in, so i might not be the best person to ask. my major critiques were:

    1) it was somewhat predictable, and, as i stated before, the scares in the movie are less of the "creeping dread" variety and more of the "gotcha!" type.

    2) again, i don't want to end the hypothesizing fun, but the monster isn't given much of a backstory or explanation. it just starts tearing NYC a new one one night.

hmm, I'm cautiously optimistic about this. I love monster movies, so I hope it has its share of rampaging monster action, rather than Lost's drawn out tedious approach.

MI3 was fucking gash so I'm expecting very little from this.

Had The Last Train on in the background I'd downloaded about a year ago and not watched. It's basically Lost with a plot, well worth looking up and pretty much one of those creepy 70's esque English sci-fi's only made in 1999.

Couple of crap new images. This looks like what I was fearing..that the protagonists would be trendy 20-somethings, straight out of the Friends cafe. Seems I'll be rooting for the monster again.

Apparantly this has a teaser trailer for Star Trek attached to it. So, um, there's a reason for going to see it right there.

    Well, for me anyway :p

I actually boo'ed at the cinema when the F-18's finally managed to nail Godzilla on the bridge. Granted, I *was* slightly drunk, but still. HE JUST WANTED TO MAKE A NICE NEST FOR HIS BABIES! >:[

Sounds exactly like everything most people have secretly been hoping this movie wouldn't be - ie, totally pedestrian.

This year's 'Transformers' - a marketing wet dream and a reasonably entertaining popcorn-fest, but otherwise pretty mundane and certainly not big on daring filmmaking, genre-redefining or surprises of any kind.

What, that wasn't made abundantly clear from the first trailer?

Not that the entire film would revolve around them, no. It was just a one scene trailer.

Basically a slightly extended version of the first trailer - the head coming down the street and them hiding from the apparently approaching monster.

Looks pretty exciting stuff although I fully expect them to fuck it up royally with a love story side plot that nobody gives a flying fuck about.

Fair enough. I hadn't expected that they'd continue the hand held camera style for the whole film actually, figuring that 'trailer' was just a teaser that was pretty far removed from the real main characters etc but it seems that they are the main characters and that it will all be handyheldy DV-cam style.

The problem is that it doesnt look cheesy. It looks po-faced and altogether like its going to take itself too seriously for a film about a 100ft monster.

Yeah, I mean cheesey as in a film about a monster, not the style. I absolutely loved War of the Worlds. Seems this has a similar kind of vibe to it, which is a nice break from the sort of films we usually watch.

Yeah, true enough. Apart from the cop out ending, WotW was pretty cool. My friend sampled the klaxon for a tune..

I know what you mean and, yeah, I agree big monster movies do rule, but I just cant stand the thought of large portions of it being first person mockumentary stuff.

I hope im wrong, because everyone like to see monsters beating up new york.

    New trailer here.

I just hope the film doesn't have the wobbly camera all the way through - the trailer's only 2 mins long and it made me feel sick!
