If Excite Truck controls are an option, that would be quality. Would be nice to have a variety of control schemes I reckon -

Well, I watched the one with Reggie showing the wheel last year. I hope it's a pack-in with MK. Either way, I must have one of those.
Have you watched the video? The official wheel looks ace. -

Registered 15 years agoTo be honest, my ideal scenario is that they use Excite Truck style controls, give you the option to buy the game without the steering wheel thingy, release SMK on virtual console at launch of MKW and an emphasis on racing and skill. This last might mean a comprehensive menu to switch power-ups on and off to suit the player's tastes. -
My ideal scenario is that there's an option to use the nunchuck.
...also maybe a free small bottle of petrol to come with the game so I can burn that bloody steering wheel. -

If you had played Excite Truck for any length of time, you'd know how very wrong you are. -
No he wouldn't. -

No suspicions here I'm afraid.

What a charming way to say that motion controls don't suit you. :/ -

Well, for the record, it wouldn't, as there's that ghey cord on it isn't there... -

So, just so I get this straight. You played Excite Truck, and beat Excite, Super Excite and Mirror mode, and you didn't like the motion controls. Is that about right? -
No, I quite like Excite Truck. But Mario Kart isn't Excite Truck and it didn't give me any indication that the controls would cross over well. -

Strange, as I was playing Excite truck, I thought that the Drift was a great way to do the power slide, and landing on all four wheels was a great way to get a boost.
It's kinda weird hearing yourself and frod favour analogue stick controls for driving games. Personally, I was never much into driving games, and it took Excite Truck to change my mind on the subject.
The only reason I might like to drive with the analogue stick would be if I could use the wiimote to aim my green shells or fire grappling hook opponents ahead of you, or sharp corners to get around them, or whatever gameplay related things I might be doing.
I just don't want them to produce a clone of Double Dash with a few bells and whistles thrown in. I want something new. -

They'll probably do the same as they're doing for Smash Brothers Brawl, and get the CPU to take over for quitters. That'll help a bit... -

Registered 15 years agoIf this comes with just motion controls someone will die.
It would be moronic, it can be used for stuff other than steering. -
It's the precision though. ET was good because it was just a balls-to-the-wall blast. Anything that involves anything more than that I'd worry for.
But then I'm so not into driving games that I still can't get to grips with analogue sticks for them. -

Not at all. The second option would suit me better. At any rate, Mariokart with Excite Truck controls would not play at all like Excite Truck. In Excite Truck, you're trying to score stunts, tree runs and shenanigans like that. My imagining of Mariokart is that it's much more about taking every corner as tight as possible (which you don't really need to do in Excite Truck) and vanquishing thine enemy, which you don't get much opportunity to do in Excite Truck. -

Registered 19 years agoFluffy motion controls would ruin Mario Kart's precision timing in-game.
Anyone who doesn't think so probably has long hair and is moving to Japan. -

I'm with T.G, I ove the Excite Truck controls and don't see why motion controls wouldn't work well with Mario Kart.
If I had a feather I'd knock myself over with it. -

Registered 16 years agoFrom Tom's EG review of Excite Truck:
The critical thing to grasp is that these trucks aren't for turning - at least not beyond a certain, surprisingly slight angle. Not realising this on the first, second and seventeenth occasion you smash into a tree because you didn't seem to turn far enough, you mistakenly assume that you're getting the wacky gesture bit wrong and start twisting your arms round in circles like a drunken washing machine. The trick, it turns out, is to limit your movements to small, guiding tweaks.
These controls are just not what you want for Mario Kart. It needs fast, tight controls that let you turn on a sixpence. Excite Truck's all about long wide runs with turns few and far between. When it does throw a sharp bend at you it's awful to try and get round it without any tactile feedback. -

The wheel will be optional. Reggie said it himself when it was announced. BELIEVE!
