I've used a pen and paper for tracking for about 5 years now. Sure, I guess it would be interesting to go back and look at your old lifts in an app... but in reality the only thing that matters is what you lifted last week.

I used to use an app, I can't remember which one it was but it used to build cumulatively how many kilos I'd moved about over a time period, which was good for my ego but meant fuck all really. Then they pulled the subscription bollocks and so I fucked it off.

I've got a home gym with whiteboard walls now so it's all illegible scrawling but I've got my current 1RM on the lifts that matter, battle board of my goals and what routines I want to do.

I should invest in an achievement binder

Watched a few interviews with Arnold Schwarzenegger last night. The guy is a bit insane. Used to be in the army in Austria and would take his weights with him when driving a tank in exercises, "so when we stopped at say 2am I could get out and do 2 hours of weights".

Also in a video on losing belly fat he says something like "burning more calories than you consume is the way to do it - if you want to eat 2000 calories, bake sure you burn 2500" - agreed, of course - but then goes on to say "you shouldn't get out of bed without doing 200 crunches"

I mean he's given a lot of genuinely interesting and motivational advice at various points, by the guy doesn't seem to have an off switch. In a speech on his motivational tips (most of which are really good tbf) he says something along the lines of "having fun is important, of course, but while you're out there horsing around someone else is getting smarter, getting better" - relax man! Ffs.

Would still recommend the vids though, he's a bit of a legend
To be fair, that's probably how how need to be if you want to be the best.

Plus you need to have phenomenal genes as well.

Asking someone who was the best in the world at something how to be the best in the world at it is rarely going to result in them describing a regime that is anything like normal. Extraordinary people achieve extraordinary things by behaving in extraordinary ways.

We're past the age of innocence when someone could smoke 20 cigs a day, drink 10 pints of beer and then turn up the next day and win the Olympic marathon.

Let's also be real, he was probably still at that point denying that steroids were being used and so had to come up with anything to explain why he was just so different looking to anyone else rather than pharma.

NOT saying he wasn't the most dedicated person at his craft. Just saying that craft included a lot more than working out and eating right

I'm just amazed he was able to fit through the hatch of a tank. I could see him getting stuck halfway, like Winnie The Pooh but if honey was 'roids

A mate of mine has just completed Ironman Wales. 2.4m swim, 112m bike ride, then a marathon. He did it in 13hrs, 42m and 42s. Ridiculous. I feel very tired on his behalf.

Shit! Mine was about midway in all categories. But for a 45 year old bloke, I think he was delighted.

On the best day of my life I'd drown 2/3 of the way into that swim.

    Triple buffet week mofos

At breakfast they had a chocolate filled donut, dipped in chocolate.

    God damn that was good.

It doesn't sound that tempting tbh.

    The chocolate donut, that is.

Although the feet amputation don't sound too tempting either.

I can't really face eating sweet stuff for breakfast.

I feel a lot of remorse

    But holiday right?

Joking aside Iím pretty restrained. I see folks walking by with piles and piles of food and Iím like wtf.

Generally I avoid too many carbs at the buffet and go to town on the meats and veg. And of course pudding. Sweet sweet puddings.

2 weeks without any booze and I've lost 3-4kg of water already. Trouble is, I seem to have replaced that booze with chocolate. I don't generally have a massive sweet tooth but the last couple of weeks I have felt the need for a few squares of chocolate once or twice a day. Need to sort that out imo.

Without wanting to sound like a cunt about it as I think we have similar struggles in terms of what culture of alcohol we grew up in, Dougs that is very atypical behavior of withdrawal. I get massive chocolate cravings when I'm off the booze and I don't really even like chocolate much normally.

    Take care fam

Not at all. It's just substituing really. I know that, so just need to get past it. Alcohol free beers have really helped too. I like the taste of beer and have enjoyed them almost as much. Good Adrian Chiles article on cutting down too.

Love lager Ė but want to drink less? Adrian Chilesís guide to great alcohol-free beers

Meh been on a healthy eating regime but it appears that my medication I'm on for various things has caused me to gain weight or messed with my metabolism or something. I did lose 7lbs but it's all put back on and I'm quite frankly baffled.
