@whatfruits awesome job! 13 stone makes you a fat fucker? I assume you must be on the shorter side of average, that or you are slightly overweight now. Keep it up, and yeah I know that one bad meal fucks up a weeks progress feeling... as long as the weight keeps falling over the months and the lifestyle change is not too hard to stick at then be happy that you can occasionally have poor dietary choices and know you can still lose weight. |

Registered 5 years agoFor what it's worth I've been making shit diet choices at least once a week for the past year and I've still managed an ok reduction in weight.
It's all about balancing out those choices with exercise. -

Say you're in a daily calorie deficit of 500 calories to lose weight, to undo a weeks progress in one meal you'd need to overeat by about 3,500 calories, that's like one and a half large Dominos pizzas in addition to what you've already eaten -

Registered 15 years agoMost people don't tend to do it with one bad meal, they tend to do it with a whole bunch of bad choices that accumulate. I know a guy that exercises 10+ hours a week and is still a solid 20kg overweight as he really loves to snack. You look at his "meals" in isolation and you'd think he was cutting for a bodybuilding competition.
Vaguely related, I'm a little annoyed with myself for the weekend. Have consistently lost weight week on week (7 day rolling average) for the last 2 months, but thanks to a bad couple of days (which on paper didn't look that bad) I'm likely to be slightly up by the end of the week.
Can't change it now, and not doing anything stupid like severely cutting calories, but still annoying.

Registered 8 years ago@Psiloc not just calories though, types of fat and cards matter too.
And one meal being a 3 course one full of cheese, saturated fats and sugar can be an extra 1000 calories in one dump. Add in 2 pints and you have another 500-1000 calories too.
Then sure you might be 1000 calories down on the week, but that equates to fuck all weight loss. -

Registered 16 years agoI’ve managed to lose about a stone and a half (now 13st 2, down from 14 10, 6 foot tall) in a couple of months. My diet is good, loads of salads etc, cut right out the snacks, but still drinking ludicrous amounts ( 2 litres cider 4 or 5 times a week). Basically must just be losing muscle mass I reckon, still feels nice to have a loss on the scales though. Definitely not a fat duck but have absolutely no time (or indeed inclination) to exercise.
At some point I’m Going to have to bulk up and look buff, otherwise what’s been the point. Dreading it frankly! Weight loss through diet is much easier than actually making proper ‘gainz’ through weights etc. -

I mean this in a non-judgey way, but seriously think about cutting down on the booze over any changes in diet or exercise.

That's a mental amount of cider. -

Smaller glasses really do make you drink less.

I swam a couple of times this week, just quick ones after a workout. I am sooooooo out of practice it's ridiculous. People doing breaststroke just cruising alongside. I'm nervous about hurting my shoulder again though, as much as I would love to get back to my previous ability I just can't see it -
Managed 40! Albeit with the last 10 being slower technique drills. Felt good to be back. Technique not too bad, a bit lazy on my right arm, and like you Pete, I am worried about my shoulder which has been better with the enforced rest. But I think I'm at the "fuck it" stage and will just swim through it.
