I had a pretty good upper body gym session this morning. Iím not as strong as I was but not as weak as I thought either. Mrs May was there, she sends her regards to you all

Within half a kg of target, pretty happy with progress really. I've managed to put on enough muscle to not look like shit, whilst losing far more fat than I should ever have had. Ended up averaging out at 0.85kg (1.94lb) a week loss since New Year.

Going to start adding in calories slowly now until I find maint / recomp levels. Hopefully give me a bit more energy to train with.

Made a start on Couch To 5K again last night. It went surprisingly well. I even quite enjoyed it.

DOMS gets worse with age, Iím sure, and I get it way worse in my legs.

I took 2 weeks off because of some virus, so yesterday I started exercising again. I know I get bad DOMS in my legs if I take a break from training, so I went easy. Cut the reps and the weight. Didnít go anywhere close to failure.

    Can hardly walk normally today.

The only cure I find is to do more squats, by the 3rd of 4th session the DOMS goes away.

Got foam roller? If not get one!

Post-40 I can have 3 day DOMS, but only if I have taken a reasonable break. Like I will have when I finally get back to the gym next week.

I'm hoping all the zwift workouts over the last few months will mean my legs are in reasonable shape, but we'll see soon enough!!

    Like urban dictionary?

    Dom
    n. Short for "Dominant." The dominant person in a BDSM relationship or encounter.

Been having shoulder and neck pain recently so booked in for a 2hr Thai massage.

I've basically paid a tiny, freakishly strong Thai woman to beat the shit out of me for 2hrs. I feel better now, but at the time it's agony at points.

Does she have a strong, dry grip and go way too far on the backswing?

Hit my weight target, for a single day at least. Don't generally count it until I've got my 7 day average down there, but I'm doing it a bit differently this time. I've already started tapering up on my calories as I definitely need more for the uptick in training I'll be doing between now and my cycling event in June.

In reality it'll probably still keep dropping for another week as I'm not increasing particularly quickly.

\o/ Our gym has opened bookings for when it can open next week.

I'm booked in for 1st of May. Stupid work getting in my way, and a bit of letting the rush ease a bit.

I will be walking like John wayne on the 3rd and maybe even the 4th.

I have a 50k(ish) zwift event tonight with 3 mountains in it, so will also likely be a broken man tomorrow and friday.

Beers on friday are a certainty to ease the pains.

What I like to do when she's around are cable pull throughs, the sexiest of all exercises.

Sure to dampen even the dustiest of ex-priministerial vajayjays

Today I ruined myself with squats.

50% of my one rep maximum, 10 sets x 20 reps. Starts fine / easy but by god by the end it's savage. Really gets your heart rate going too. You should all definitely try it

    :D

I'll maybe save that for a few weeks time- I'm booked to go back for the first time on sat. I will be ruined on mon, even if I do stick to my plan and take things easy/lighter than usual.

I have my vaccination on thursday, so am hoping for zero side effects so I can actually go to the gym. It's been a loong wait to get back, I think it shut at xmas ffs!

The thing I like about low weight / high reps exercise, particularly anything involving my lower back, is I never feel like I'm about to injure myself. It's still hard as absolute motherfuck but in a different way to trying to max weight PBs or whatever. My family have a history of lower back issues and I want to keep an eye on that. If I can build strength while not putting undue strain on my spine / discs, while at the same time getting properly out of breath etc then happy days.

Has anyone has an issue with digital scales? My scales have shown the exact same weight for a full week now. Itís not even doing that thing where the number bounces around and finally settles. I stand on them, and bang, the exact same weight. I mean, maybe Iím not losing weight, but my weight should naturally fluctuate.
Itís almost as if the scales canít be bothered weighing me and just shows the most recent weight it has stored in memory.

Yeah happens all the time. I lost a stone last week and the scales said I actually put 2 pound on.

Yeah this. Weighing yourself everyday and at different times is pretty pointless as lots of variation can happen or none at all.

Do it every week at the same time and you'll start seeing trends and be able to act on them.
