Question: why do the protein chugging guys at the gym I frequent never go near the cardio machines? It's like they're all allergic. Impressive bulldog necks, but wheezing after climbing up a flight of stairs. Madness. -

I'd have to get an orgasm from eating it to pay that.
Anyone come across a Quest Bar? 170kcal, 20g protein, 17 (SEVENTEEN) grams of fibre, 1 gram of sugar, 6g of fat. With the slight downside of being almost 3 quid for a 60g bar. -

BTW, just thought I'd be smug for a moment about my recent fitness escapades. Started the year at 90kg; now I'm down to a much saner 79kg. Rarr. -

A long time, 7 years-ish. It's not terribly impressive. It's something that anyone training for that length of time should be able to do.

With respect, I think you're missing a vital point. It's not carbs that are bad for you, it's the wrong type and too much of it. Not only do carbs provide energy but they help with proper organ function.
@pistol
Wouldn't say I'm scared of carbs
I just think excess wheat and sugar (typical western diet) is the main reason for our obesity and health problems wouldn't you agree?
I wasn't referring to sugar, or processed carbs in general. There are plenty of other more useful sources of carbohydrate available and of course eating too much of anything can cause obesity. My diet is quite high in carbohydrate but it tends to come from whole grains, fresh fruit, veg, stuff like brown pasta, couscous etc.
I don't just use carbohydrates to fuel my cycling, I use for the above too. -

Registered 12 years agoI weigh 54kg, can do 100kg on the Leg press machine for 8-10 reps. Thought that was impressive but then I realised you're not lifting your bodyweight + weight on that machine, it's like squatting but you're weightless.
Sure enough when I try squatting with a barbell for 8-10 reps I can do only 40kg
Unless I take carbs pre-workout then the weights start floating and I can hit 250kg front squats, 12 reps.

Cool only been doing it 6 months would like to get to that in 7 years. I'm sure alot of is about technique as that seems to keep holding me back. What sort of routine you do? I've been doing starting strength for last 2 months and it's going well, you heard of it? -

That's Rippetoe isn't it? I've heard of it, he's a very smart guy, there's a great video on YT somewhere, of him helping someone with their deadlift technique - helped me a lot. Definitely stick with it.

I'm following Wendler's 5/3/1 for powerlifting right now. Basically the 'big lift' followed by associated assistance work. -

Yeah you start with empty bar, squat 3 times a week. rotate bench press and overhead press. Rotate barbell row and deadlft add 2.5 kg every session
Workout a squat, bench, row
Workout b squat, overhead, deadlift
Yeah looked at 531 looks like a good routine, will stick to mine until I get my lifts up first though.

@pistol
The tip about consuming carbs first thing is the morning for body composition has recently been de-mystified, there never was a proper clinical study into the myth in the first place, consuming calories (including carbs) later in the day/evening over morning actually is an asset; especially if practicing intermittent fasting.
Carbs post workout - G.I. is totally floored as we know and glycogen replenishes over the next day anyhow, so for the average gym rat, or the natural am. or pro. that ACTUALLY knows how to train properly carbs aren't even needed - however, I do think that carbs should be included around workouts/post workout for OPTIMAL body composition, not taking health into account.
And you?
I'm not willy waving it's a serious question.

I'm not waving my floppy cyclists penis either. -
