So, got engaged on Friday night to my girlfriend of 7 years (as in I've been going out with her for 7 years, she's not 7)
Absolutely over the moon about the whole thing

My wife just bought me an IBM Selectric. They're the mack daddy of electronic typewriters. I am a happy man. -

Yep. Selectric 2 to be exact. Described as "in good working condition", but we'll see if it actually works or not once I pick it up on Monday. My wife got it off a government surplus auction for $6. Which, considering they go for about $500 refurbished, is a damn good deal. -

Registered 15 years agoSmall things... I just dealt with a customer service operator who was basically perfect. Tesco.com helpdesk.
I'm utterly amazed. Usually I'm left wanting to smash my brains out against a wall. -

Registered 18 years agoYou could always give them some props. Drop a quick email to Tesco, positive feedback is pretty rare these days.
They might get employee of the month! -

Well, I got a new job offer today with a top company and 10% more money than I'm currently on. Then I got an email to say I'd won £25 on the premium bonds. Just a scratch card left to scratch.... -
Oh... Never knew this thread existed.
Yesterday in the midst of everything, my boss told me that I'm now on a company bonus scheme. I get 7-45% of 1/2 my salary every 6 month. That was good news. -

Registered 14 years agoI won a tenner on the scratchy by the way. Can't seem to lose today so I've bought a lotto ticket. -

Registered 16 years agoYou should probably use some of that money and pay someone to punch you in the balls. Balance out all that good luck before mother nature does it for you. -

The scratchy and the premium bonds are luck, I'll give you that. The job, that's 10 years of grafting and being awesome.

Hear from York hospital that there appears to be no permanent damage and with my history, they think it was more likely to be migrainal than a stroke. Similar mechanisms though, so I have to chill the hell out and stop taking life - and more to the point work - so seriously.
Upside of all this has been to make me re-evaluate my life and what is important in it. I'm going to seriously declutter my life (already done on the internet side of things) and focus on the important stuff and let the other stuff slide. I'm also going to worry less about what people think. Easier said than done obviously, but I need to really appreciate all the good stuff I have in my life and how transient life is and enjoy it more.
Another upside was a got some lovely cards from my g/f and her daughters. Made me feel really appreciative. -

Registered 20 years agoExcellent news.
My wife had something that seemed like a stroke during a pregnancy. I was with her at the time, but didn't really make the stroke connection, I would now. Vision went wonky, then speech - I could see she couldn't say the correct words she wanted.
Went to A&E, but got sent home, with appt for specialist the next day. It was an atypical typical migraine, if that makes sense....
She had all the stroke symptoms, but one after another. All at once, it would have been a stroke. -
Migraine! \o/
