Last week's new releases were a really good batch

Opeth - In Cauda Venenum - seems like these guys get better at the not-death-metal prog rock thing they're doing. Really great guitar solos, pretty jazzy noodling and great songwriting. Maybe it's just that I'm finally getting over the lack of death metal elements.

Cult of Luna - A Dawn to Fear - just brilliant, long but never dull, powerful, tuneful, noisy, post-metal excellence with a bit of core. It's Cult of Luna and it's uip there with their best. Early days and I may cool on it but feels like a contender for album of the year for me & I can't wait to see them in London in November.

High Command - Beyond the Wall of Desolation - they Power Trip better than Power Trip Power Trips. Crusty thrash brilliance, love it. Every song is a belter, definitely one to check out for fans of the aforementioned, Toxic Holocaust and Slayer.

If anyone wants a laugh there's a terrible new Machine Head song/video out.

Someone should tell Rob Flynn that he's 52.

I mean, Aesthetics of Hate is a good outlet of channelling aggression but that new song definitely is not even though it is desperately trying to be. When your aggressive metal song tells about memes and reaction videos with Rob doing his worst rap metal singing then it makes me laugh more than anything.

@StixxUK I had not heard of High Command, I am listening to them now, and I like- thank you! Not quite convinced they outdo Power Trip but it is close and worth some repeat listening.

    I love this thread.

On a strange whim I got the new DragonForce album and I'm not sure why I bothered. I kinda liked their last couple of albums but this is an album full of filler. Though the cover of My Heart Will Go On is kind of fun.

High Command are great, like a more Epic version of Power Trip. I enjoyed Algebra - Pulse? as well.

To make things worse, Machine Fuckin' Head now have Vogg from Decapitated as their second guitarist.

I understand completely it's a steady paycheck for him, but this is almost as bad as when Jeff Loomis ended up in Arch Enemy.

I kinda liked the music, right up until the singing started.

I don't mind the guys voice, I liked the last 3 albums he did with them. Just musically it's a bit dull.

Even though the bass is subdued the last couple of albums were mostly written by their bassist who left, and I think that had an impact.

Shameless plug, however one for you Surrey and London guys.

Reload is a new rock club in Surrey, run by myself and a good friend. We play metal, nu-metal, grunge, hardcore, punk, pop-punk and all the other sub-genres in-between.

We cater to both older and younger metal/punk fans, so we often play album/niche tracks alongside the usual floorfillers.

Here's a Spotify playlist of everything we played during our sold out launch night last month.

    Here's a link to our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/ReloadRockClubSurrey/

Our next event is on Friday 25th October in Guildford at The Back Room at The Star, and we're giving it a little halloween twist this month. Link below:

Anyone else go to damnation last night? Had a good time. Managed to catch Alunah, Wheel, MGLA, Alcest, Gaahls Wryd, Mayhem and Opeth.

Opeth were great, their new stuff fits into their back catalogue really well, and the set was designed to show that off. It was kind of a duck you to certain fans saying we always been prog as much as metal. Although I enjoy comedy Michael he kept it to a minimum and they knocked out an hour and a half of awesome sauce. Leper.
Harlequin. Lotus etc etc They looked like they were having a great time and crowd really got into it too. Last couple of opeth gigs I seen they got heckled quite a bit but not here. Had everything from moshing to disco dancing.
    Was great.

Mayhem were ok. The first half was shit then they blew the PA but after that they actually were quite good.

Gaahl was great. I love his new album and I really enjoyed his stage performance. Crowd weren’t really receptive to him but again, enjoyed it a lot.

Alcest were fantastic. Aside from Opeth they drew the biggest crowd and everyone went nuts for them. Kind of missed the boat on them but really...fuck I’m tired and all I can say is... I really enjoyed it haha. Wheel and Alunah were good too.

Now on a coach back to Cornwall. 13 hours with about 4 hours sleep.

Anyone else listened to the new Blind Guardian? Technically a side project, it's an entirely orchestral album that sounds like Blind Guardian. Reviews are gushing over it but I'm not sure. Feels more like a bonus disk that has an alternative version of the real album. Maybe needs a few more listens.

I've just stumbled across Black Tongue- holy fuck, Nadir is a chunky slab of metal. I usually err towards thrash rather than whatever this is (doom? deathcore? Sludge?) but these guys make good, angry noise. Recommended!

New Blood Incantation album is great

Would fucking love them to come visit the UK (maybe bring Tomb Mold, yes?)

And whatever you may think of Machine Head these days, this looked incredible

Amazing, I wish I knew about this. Since they got rid of their message board I'm out of the loop with things like this. At least I saw them at Brixton earlier this month (albeit with the buzz killing beergate on soundboard episode).

I went to what I think was their last secret gig as "Ten Ton Hammer" in 2002 at the tiny Garage in London.

I think this was Phil Demmel's first gig with Machine Head, temporarily filling in for Ahrue who'd just left the band.

Is that Logan Madder back on guitar?

Clearly I'm out of the loop and missed Robb replacing the entire band.

Whatever though, huge nostalgia vibes from the moment you hear that wash of feedbacky noise before the Blood for Blood riff kicks in

Logan Mader and Chris Kontos are back for this tour. Half of their set each night is them playing Burn My Eyes in it's entirety. The first half is all their newer stuff, with all the current hired guns.

They're touring again in June, same deal.

Depressingly, Vogg from Decapitated is one of Machine Head's current hired guns. Almost as bad as Jeff Loomis playing in Arch Enemy for a steady paycheck.

Huh. The new Lindemann album is far better than the new Rammstein album. Didn't expect that at all.

I will have to check it out, I really rather liked the new Rammstein album, possibly the one I've enjoyed the most since Mutter.

I quite liked the new Rammstein album as well, however I wasn't aware of a new Lindemann album, so thanks for the heads up! I'm giving it a listen now.

I love the new Rammstein album too that's the thing. Genuinely think the Lindemann one is bloody awesome though. Knebel is a fucking beast of a song.
