The new Gojira album isn't quite doing it for me yet. I'll give it more time, because they're a phenomenal band, but so far it ranks quite low compared to their catalogue.

But still, poor Gojira is still greater than the best from other bands.

Gojira are one if those bands that should have everything I like on paper but I’ve never found a proper ‘in’ with them

    What do people recommend?

    Two songs: Stranded and Silvera.
I fell in love with those tracks and then got into Magma in a big way. Loving the new album too. And now I get the pleasure of working my way backwards through the discography.

The album From Mars to Sirius was my first love of theirs. Flying Whales and Where Dragons Dwell are immense songs.

I think Metal Hammer had a free sampler CD on its cover with The Heaviest Matter of the Universe on it and I was hooked from there.

The Way of All Flesh is IMO their best. It's similar to 'Ride' or 'Master' in that it marks the start of more epic and melodic elements coming to prominence whilst still maintaining lots of grind.

La Enfant Savauge (spelling) is the first really accessible one to me, it still has bits of death in it but is really rolled off by a warmer production.

They didn't really find their feet until the 3rd album with all the whales and dragons, but anything from there inclusive is gold.

For Gojira, is say the way of all flesh...

Or from Mars to Sirius although best if you think of the opening track as an intro, and backbone as the first proper track.

Their live album Les Enfants Sauvages is also a goodun and captures their famous live energy quite nicely.

I actually like the new album more than Magma, definitely heavier and a bit more interesting. But the preceding 3 albums are their best by a decent margin.

New Mutoid Man should be a treat but its a bummer that the bass player has quit

    https://metalinjection.net/news/breakups/mutoid-man-recording-a-new-album-parts-ways-with-bassist

I assume his replacement is Nate Newton because he’s in every band now

Anyone else watch the Nightwish virtual gig this evening?

Was good, but very odd to not have Marko sing some of the songs. But they finished with Greatest show on earth which made me happy!

Picked up the collectors edition of Epica's new album 'Omega'

    It's very good. 👍

Omega (2021) is some of Epica's best work. This track is astonishingly good. So much emotion going on and, unsurprisingly, it ends with the bands trademark, well, "epic" sound.

If you like your metal epic with a smattering of doom then I'm confident you'll enjoy this.

Have we talked about Cryptosis yet?

Super awesome tech thrash from the Netherlands that sit up there with Paranorm as some of the best recent metal of its type.

Sam Dunn just reviewed it on Banger TV but it was already high on my current playlist

Not only the greatest album title ever, but actually some genuinely great stoner doom.

New Blood Command is pretty awesome, looking forward to seeing them live with Kvelertak (finally after 2 years of delays) early next year.

For fans of Kvelertak and Turbonegro, this is totally my cup of tea and if anyone knows any similar bands I'll be all over it.

Turns out their new singer's previous band, Pagan, aren't half bad either.

    @themanfromdelmonte @Wayne

Thanks - Bokassa yes but much more stonery. Remind me a bit of Danko Jones.

Nova Twins... I saw them supporting Prophets of Rage, also not bad, strong Prodigy influence for sure.

I thought that was a bizarre comparison, but I've just put the album on again, and I 100% get where you're coming from.

Have to say, that new Fear Factory album is surprisingly good.

I mean, you know their shctick, but despite the messy ongoings behind the scenes it's probably one of the best versions of their schtick in a very long time.

@drhickman1983 oooh that's good to know. I'll grab a listen later. Still rather it was the old line up before everything went to hell.

@drhickman1983 thats pretty much how I feel about it. Obviously its still staccato riffs and songs about Terminator but its the sharpest they’ve sounded in years. Must have been a hell of a studio session to produce this and have Burton walk away from the band.

It's a hell of a swan song for Burton's time in Fear Factory, that's for sure.

It's been years since I listened to Genexus so it might be a trick of my memory, but I don't think Burton's harsh vocals have sounded this harsh and just damned angry since their heyday. Seems to be real venom in the delivery at times.
