The Maiden song did absolutely nothing for me. Just kinda meandering and dull like most of their recent output.

I know its not metal news but the details coming out about Mark Hoppus’s diagnosis are super heavy

Finished listening to the At the Gates new album. Really enjoyed it. A solid entry.

Bought my first Alestorm album yesterday 'Captain Morgan's Revenge'.

Love it. It's a lot of fun.

New Maiden album due September 3rd. Despite the disappointing single, I'm excited. :D

And it’ll be an excuse for them to tour again and hopefully things will feel safe enough to go because they’re still incredible

I used to be a massive Alestorm fan. Seen them live plenty, even got a pit pass to shoot them once. But after, I think, the 4th album? It all ran dry for me. But the first three albums I loved at the time.

    @Wayne

Yeah I don't think I'll be buying all their albums as they are a novelty. I've had listen through tracks across their catalogue and aside from Captain Morgan's Revenge I've settled on Curse of the Crystal Coconut and No Grave But The Sea.

I do like No Grave But The Sea, but I've got to be in a particualr mood so it doesn't annoy the hell out of me.

See I actually expected to be very non-plussed about the single but I rather like it, so I'm looking forward to the new album quite a lot. I wish they hadn't gone for Eddie in front of black again though. He looks cool but would have better incorporated in some crazy feudal Japan war type shit.

I like Alestorm, they don't take themselves all that seriously at all and are well aware of their shortcomings.

Weird like Bowes other groups too, Gloryhammer (power metal) and Wizardthrone (melodic death metal (I guess) with lyrics about maths)

Curse of the Crystal Coconut is their latest album and it was hard to resist a track called Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship. 😂

@PickledShogun Ha, I've not actually bothered to listen to that one but I'll check it out.

My dad is a music lover and aside from his go to music (Dylan, Steve Miller etc) he does like to branch out with the weird and wonderful. Got him into Wagakki Band a while back and now he's listening to Alestorm.

@PickledShogun Brilliant. Mine recently decided to get into Metallica, having never listened to anything heavier than Deep Purple and early Sabbath for years!

I upset one of my work colleagues regarding Wagakki Band.

"The bass player is good looking!"

"Yes" I replied "For a guy"

    They got quite upset. 😂

Another blast from the past for me this evening with a bit of Bodycount.

Quite like Bodycount, last album was pretty decent especially some of the guest spots. Riley Gale on Point the Finger was great.

In light of Gale's death though, Ice-T's remark about "maybe after this is all over, we'll do a real video. Maybe not..." more poignant than intended.

@drhickman1983 Absolutely love the last two Bodycount albums. And as you say, the tracks with the guests are superb.

Alestorm very much peaked with Sunset on the Golden Age. The first album is decent as it is played a fair bit straighter than their recent stuff and is good thrashy folky fun. The second album is kinda dull. Third is fun but Golden Age just does it all better.

No Grave But the Sea just bored me and to be honest, Chris Bowes sounds bored on it as well. Started leaning too hard into the gimmick side from that point, Crystal Coconut is a little better but same issue for me. Golden Age mixes the silliness with songwriting that is a little bit more ambitious generally than their later stuff.

Speaking of Bowes, his newest project is pretty good:

Gloryhammer which he formed too are well worth checking out. Apocalypse 1992 is a fantastic album.

I hadn't heard their cover of Raining Blood before - it was interesting...

The average Slayer fan will absolutely hate it, but I really really like it. Last time I seen them, they opened with that. Good times.

Indeed, I didn't dislike it - Ice T's vocals are a different style which does make it sound quite different.

Still listening to Amazon's playlist this morning - there appears to be a lot to catch up as I haven't listened to them since Surviving the Game! :-)

No Lives Matter, Black Hoodie and This Is Why We Ride, three great songs if you ask me. All from Bloodlust, if you fancy checking out an album.

This is why we ride has already come up on the playlist and is excellent.

Missed this awesome track by Dvne as it wasn't on their album and has quite a different style, faster & higher-energy but still proggy and heavy. Mastodon meets Isis meets Baroness.

Hopefully they can ride a bit of the Dune movie hype and not get in trouble for it :D
