    Opeth!

Get their heavy "Deliverance", the older and deathy "My Arms, your hearse" and their latest, more groovy "Ghost Reveries". And the popular "Blackwater Park" and the soft "Damnation" :D And the older albums too. Etc etc. You need them all.

Mastodon, the only one I've heard is the latest, "Leviathan". Very good, quirky metal with an excellent drummer.

And speaking of metal... just recieved the new Dragonforce album to review. Didn't people in here like them? Very fast and hysteric powermetal *sigh* Not really my cup of tea, but very catchy.

The debut was (and still is) fantastic, and the second album was just more of the same. I was going to buy the new one, but then I downloaded a track from their site and decided not to bother. This one is exactly the same as the last two. I was hoping for something different.

    They're amazing live though.

I've got Inhuman rampage hopefully through the post today, don't care if it doesn't do anything too different, I'm sure it'll have a life of it's own after a few months.

I gave it a 2/6 in my review. Too hysteric and repetetive IMO. A bit like metals answer to Blümchen ;) HORROBLE last song too, argh! Worst ballad I've heard in ages. The songs are catchy and all, I just can't endure the whole album in one listen. Will probably see/photograph them when they come here with Edguy (I get to see most concert for free as a photographer ;), can imagine them beeing better live.

Will go to Stockhom on friday to see/photograph/review one of my new fave bands, finnish doomers Swallow the Sun. Just hope my lungs will be in a bit better shape til then, if not I'll stay in Gothenburg and go see Rotten Sound instead.

Next friday I'll probably interview In Flames and on saturday go to a Grammy-sort-of-thing where In Flames will perform and Opeth is sure to win the "Best Metal"-award. Will try to sneakysnap a few drunk-metal-guys shots at the party afterwards ;)

Oh, I photographed Dark Tranquillity two weeks ago too. Photos here.

For those of you who like primitive black metal, like Darkthrone and 1394, check out a german band called Negator. Not bad at all.

In other news (for you verm), Koma announced that they've changed name to Khoma (guess it was taken) and their second album will be out in early April.

I've been listening to Primordial's "The Gathering Wilderness" again while coding. Pretty much on loop, with Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds and Tuatha De Danann/Korpiklaani/Finntroll albums again...

And a black metal band called Darkestrah...

can anyone reccomend an album by behemoth? I saw a video on 120 minutes and was blown away, so brutal!

It was kind of more death than black metal.

More death than black. They used to be more BM in the old days but have changed into a hybrid of the two and well, they have a rather unique sound IMO. You can't go wrong with that CD.

Hmm, I was weak and decided to buy the new DF album yesterday, despite what I’d previously said. Sadly (luckily for my wallet) it was out of stock at HMV, so I downloaded it last night, and have just finished listening to it. I have found myself pleasantly surprised. It’s better than Sonic Firestorm although still doesn’t beat Valley of the Damned. I’ll definitely buy it once I see it in stock somewhere, and look forward to seeing them live again at some point.

The need to stop writing horrible cheesy ballads though. And then playing them live.

I don't think there is a metal hate thread per se, FTWA, but you can go over to the Coldplay thread if you like?

Oh yeah, I'm listening to the new Amorphis track "House of Sleep"... It's more rock than metal from the overall feel of it.

I'm still a big fan of Tales from the thousand lakes which was 11 (one one) years ago now and I haven't heard much new stuff past Elegy so they could have been like this for the last few years without me noticing :)

...but it's very weird. The guitar playing sounds like them in the way they're actually playing. But I'd have never guessed this was Amorphis in a million years :)

Have their last few albums been this pop-rock sounding?
    Still, not a bad track.

    yes and no!

Far from the sun was a very commercial album, no death grunts or nothin, just really good catchy songs, Elegy I personally think is a masterpiece! Tuonela and Am Universum are very similar, more songy less death metal vocals, still good music and worth picking up if you find em knocking about!

I've only heard "Leaves scar" from the new album, had growls and clean vocals (they have a new singer now), was quite "metally"
