@EMarkM Oooh, Master as well, nice! I'll admit that I only really like Cause Of Death (James Murphy a-go-go!) and World Demise, but still reckon they'd be crushing live. |

Registered 10 years ago@FuzzyDuck Yeah, Master were bloody good. Paul seemed pleasantly surprised anyone remembered them.
Got to chat to all the lads from both bands after the gig. It was a good night. -

Destruction's Riot Squad has been in my head for the last few days.

Registered 14 years agoAny Kalisia fans here? Just got their one album and its amazing. Sort of a cross between Wintersun, Ayreon and a shed load of other artists that you would probably never put together. -
New Cynic album for mid-February next year!

Bit of a buzz about these lads over here in Ireland at the minute. Visceral and filthy as fuck.

Who's the Artist? -
@Architect_z
They're called Malthusian, think they're just about to release their first demo, but what I've heard of them is pretty damn good. -

Have you listened to the new Ayreon? I've been listening to it the last few days and -although it doesn't break any new ground- I like it very much.

I need help from my metal brothers! Please listen to the link and tell me what you think of the blast beat section.
No comments on the production please, it's a very early draught. -

Registered 14 years ago@JonFE I really like it though it took a few listens to really appreciate it. Its better than the last one though not as good as the amazing Human Equation. Whilst musically it maintains a consistently high quality, I think the decision to only have four long tracks (or 42 very short ones) means that suffers from a lack of surprises or standout moments. -

I know what you mean! It certainly grows on you, but its bigger "flaw" is that there are moments where the melodies sound overly familiar. I'm pretty sure that, given some attention, I could identify parts of his previous recordings.
At least, JB and Marco Hietala have some excellent performances! -
Some Death To All footage!

@Progguitarist
The blast beat section sounds dandy to me. I like the way it breaks into the sections with the fast double bass drums and it nice to be able to clearly hear the cymbals. Unrequested I know, but for what it's worth, the production sounds good enough to me. There's some nice bottom end even on my small PC speakers.
I know this came out last year, but I've only just got round to getting the CD. It's pretty darn good

Found myself preferring the instrumental versions of Pelagial and Crack the Skye, and always loved a bit of Russian Circles...
Speaking of whom, the new album is great. -
@StixxUK
Have you heard any of Christian Muenzer's (he of Obscura fame) solo jobby? ("Timewarp"). Here's the man himself playing through a track.
Pretty sure I've posted these lads before, Keelhaul have a Mastodon-y sound.
The mighty Blotted Science.
New Exivious album just came out the other week.

Oh, I've also been getting into Dysrhythmia, seeing as two thirds of the band have been in Gorguts for the last few years!
-
@Beetroot_Bertie
That last Converge album is a pretty nasty affair alright! It's actually the last album I bought in my local HMV before it was closed for good -

Seems a bit weird when it comes out of it, like there's no changeover or something... which makes it sound unnatural. Can't put my finger on it.

Registered 12 years agoIt's the volume levels between the parts I think. I've quad tracked it this evening and it sounds a lot fuller.
I'm glad you hit upon that because that's what was bugging me! -

Registered 15 years agoStarting to get really, really bored of modern metal. The scene is so stagnant. Just a decade ago I was getting into new bands every other week. It's not that I like metal less than I used to, there's just fuck all in the way of freshness out there.

Registered 11 years ago@Syrette Hmm. I'm the compete opposite. I'm spending too much money on new bands at the moment. In the past few months there's been some amazing releases:
Prosanctus Inferi - Noctambulous Jaws of Sempiternal Night
Oranssi Pazuzu - Valonielu
Vastum - Patricidal Lust
Toxic Holocaust - Chemistry of Consciousness
Lumbar - The First and Last Days of Unwelcome
Dead in the Dirt - The Blind Hole
Bolzer - Aura
Beyond - Fatal Power of Death
Puig Destroyer - self-titled EP
Axeslasher - Anthology of Terror Vol.1
To name but a few. Not sure how fresh the sounds are, but I think they're all really exciting examples of modern metal. -
Wha? Metal is in rude health at the moment, I can't afford to keep up with all the good stuff coming out. -

Registered 14 years ago@Syrette feeling the same at times recently. 10 years ago I was getting into new bands all the time and buying 2/3 albums a week. Now I just tend to buy stuff when ever one of my favourite bands release something and occasionally listen to new stuff on YouTube. -

I have a few of those on my Bandcamp account as well. The Prosanctus Inferi, Oranssi Pazuzu, Vastum & Bolzer are especially good. Will check out the other ones you mention as well. Also, for me:

I am going to stop now. Point is there has been may great releases this year!
I have bought around 250 albums on Bandcamp this year on top of all the physical media (CD/LP/Tapes) as well. Don't even want to calculate how much I have spent on music over the year. Thank fuck for Spotify otherwise I might be broke!
