Registered 14 years agohmmmmmmm kind of maybe a tough not as into the new Agalloch as I'd hoped.
It's good, but doesn't get the feelings going like the others, plus his vocals are dull as fuck on this one. -

Been giving the most recent Behemoth album a few spins this evening; fuck me they sound revitalised.
Good shit indeed. -

Registered 12 years agoYeah it sounds good so far. I doubt they'll ever be as unhinged as their first 3 albums but they'll remain solid nonetheless. -

Registered 11 years agoNew mastodon sounds rubbish. No excitement in the drums anymore, they sound like tired old men now.
Sikth supposed to be playing at the horn in St Albans tonight if anyone is interested or local enough to take a rumour seriously. -

Registered 11 years ago@OllyJ I agree. Monotonous songs but nice background music! They never quite delivered on their early potential. -

Registered 14 years agoI know I'll probably get shot down for this, but Going to Hell by The Pretty Reckless is a rather good listen.
Also I found out today that Electric Boys are still going and released an album in 2011. Might have to track that one down. -

Registered 11 years agoNew Mastodon album is definetely a grower but i'm enjoying more and more everytime I listen to it. Still not as good as their early output though. -

Registered 14 years agoAny of you guys want to buy over 120 tracks for a fiver?
Over 9 hours of music for just a fiver!
Kinell fest 2014 mega compilation!
Help Paul Priest pay for the recent festival madness and gain some awesome tracks in the process. -
Wasn't too enthused about the new Mastodon, but it's actually pretty decent.
Mops the floor with the last two records anyway. -

Registered 12 years agoYeah I really like it. It's a happy middle ground. Very straightforward but well put together and pretty catchy in places. -

Registered 11 years agoWow harsh in here. I love Crack The Skye. To be honest I love each Mastodon album as they're all quite different from each other. Can't wait for the new one, 1 week! -

Registered 7 years agoCrack the Skye is their best album IMO... although I'm a fan of most of their albums anyway. The only one I'm not too keen on is Remission, and even with that I don't think it's a bad album. -

Or now. Just call it a preview -

Registered 6 years agoLeviathan is their best album for me, but Crack the Skye has two of their best songs (The Czar and The Last Baron) and is really strong throughout. Only Hearts Alive matches those two.
The Hunter was decidedly average and easily their poorest effort, imo. -

Registered 14 years agoI know they aren't metal any more, however the new Anathema album is really nice.
Maybe though, it's time they went on another wild musical u turn as really this album is quite similar to the last two, still love it, probably would like them to change it up a bit next time. -

I quite like The Hunter. Crack The Skye was a bit ropey, very disappointed with it.
I never understood the love for Crack The Skye, the preceding 3 albums absolutely destroy it (especially Remission and Leviathan).
A few erm "preview" spins later, and the new one is sounding really good indeed. -

Registered 16 years agoThe Hunter is really, really inconsistent.
There are some good songs on there (Black Tongue) but some bloody awful ones (Octopus has No Friends).
The new album is more consistent, and lots of catchy tracks. It's a different style, I'd say closest to Curl of the Burl out of all their previous stuff. Catchy but with killer riffs.
So far I like it, think it'll go down well live and could definitely win them some new fans. -

Registered 12 years agoMy opinion on the new album:
Tread Lightly: Good opener, I do like the main riff. 7/10
The Motherload: Might be the catchiest Mastodon song yet by a mile? And good riffs too: 8/10
High Road: I've gone off this one since hearing the rest of the album. It's a bit dull. 4/10
Once More 'Round the Sun: Sounds a bit like something off the Hunter mixed with Blood Mountain. Short and sweet, good riffs. 8/10
Chimes at Midnight: Another good one, a bit like something off the Hunter mixed with Leviathan this time. 8/10
Asleep in the Deep: A bit flat. Would work as a shorter song I think, doesn't really have enough to it to carry it through to 6 minutes... 6/10
Feast Your Eyes: Love this one, loads of energy all the way through, classic Mastodon. 9/10
Aunt Lisa: I like it when Mastodon are a bit weird, interestingly the only track I can recall with non-clean vocals in places on this album. Liked it a lot, and quite different to the rest of the ablum. Although not sure WTF happened with the vocals at the end8/10
Ember City: Not such a fan of this one, felt a bit flat and too straightforward. 5/10
Halloween: Tied for favourite track on the album with Feast Your Eyes. Really hits its stride about a third of the way through, works for the same reason as Feast Your Eyes. 9/10
Diamond In the Witch House: A very moody finish to the album. Slower and sludgier than the rest of it but it works well to wind things down. Wouldn't have wanted it near the middle of the album though. 7/10
Some general criticisms/notes would be that I wasn't as impressed by Brann's drumming as I've been in the past, and it's still lacking a bit of the inventiveness and craziness that made Blood Mountain my favourite. Overall I'd give it an 8/10 though. Only tracks I find a bit weak are High Road, Asleep int he Deep and Ember City, though Asleep might grow on me.

Registered 11 years ago@Syrette Yeah, if it happened at all! A few people I know 'heard a rumour', not sure if it took place. Looking at the Download footage so far looks quite promising, I think Sikth are playing London in November and headlining some festival somewhere so I might try and catch them at either of those. -
New Mastodon is streaming on iTunes now.
Listened to it a few times now and have to say I'm really enjoying it. Think Once More Round the Sun is my fav track so far but I'm sure it will change over time.
Aunt Lisa's ending is pretty lame though which is a shame as the rest of the song is awesome.
