Well, divx is pretty much rubbish. First two files I tried wouldn't play, the third DID play, but it was out of sync (perfectly in sync on my PC), got the media server to work but it takes AGES for videos to buffer, and that's just for a 4 minute music video, and it also cripples the PC I'm streaming from. Looks like I'll have to wait for Sony to come and do this right. :( Blah.

from dvd, divx is working fine for me!!!

I just had a look through a bunch of .avi files (still at work for the mo) and they are all encoded with different versions of Xvid and DivX. Maybe this makes a difference as to what the 360 can play?

maybe. i checked a few now from "various" sources and they all run fine. might try streaming later. the sync issue sounds like lack of memory on the pc. they said that older divx encodes might not work or something.

I can't believe you guys are even able to use WMP11 with the 360. I've been stuck with Windows Media Connect for months now.

What seems to be the problem? I believe you have to remove WMC for WMP11 to work but I recall it does that for you. I did have one problam with WMP11 once (360 can't see PC) but I reverted back to WMC and install WMP11 again and it fixed it (must have been some other video codec or player messing up the WMP associations).

Er, I haven't read the pages before this, so don't know if it's been said before. But the new update lets you (finally) change the Windows Live ID (MSN address) associated with your Gamertag. Apparently though, it's been causing a load of trouble for people, and Microsoft are working on an update. So don't change it yet. o_O

I managed to change mine at midday, no problems.

It turns out the problem is with the Xbox.com forums. Your "Community Level" and icons are wiped out, and your posts read as "Anonymous", apparently. I hope you didn't use them. :)

Yeah, I originally removed WMC, and i've been through so many different changes to get WMP11 to work that i've lost count of the things i've done. My PC sees the 360, but my 360 doesn't stream the music. If I can work up the mental energy I might try reinstalling like you did. I dunno, WMC seems to work alright, I guess i'm stuck with it for now.

i've had the ability to transcode vids for the 360 for a while now but i've always used the xbox1 for watching cos it seemed a little ropey. now that i've updated the 360 i thought i'd give it another go.

i've just tested a stream of a divx and it buffered .. then it played. it played well and looked good. however, i couldn't ff or rew while watching though otherwise it crapped out and i'd have to restart it. looks like i'm keeping the original black box for a while longer.

    ahhh but ...

turns out, i'd forgot i was still transcoding the videos. quick install of WMP11, followed by another 360 additional update and voila. perfect.

    xbox1 is outta here.

my 360 no longer sees my PC no matter what I try which is odd but divx works fine off all different sources I tried. It states the 360 will only play divx5 files and up so some of you might have old stuff? try a program called gspot to get info about the files not working

apparently MS hate people from the channel islands....

cant fucking download anything since the dashboard update
  • Deleted user 4 December 2007 19:21:21
Crap. I've just read the 'things you need to know' bit in the Xbox Originals section. Turns out that the Halo VGA 50Hz problem is still there!

Now, maybe I was being naïve, but surely they could have done something to get that sorted before making it available for download. I presume that Fable still plays like a dog too?

Bum, I'm very unhappy with MS at the moment; this nonsense and still no 1440x900 VGA support :(

Ah well, off to play ME :)
