Registered 15 years agoHi chaps, first of all, apologies if this has been asked somewhere in this thread already, but i really dont have the opportunity(at work) to go through 16 pages of posts to check
Anywho, i really want this update! Unfortunately i dont have a internet connection at home at the moment (in the process of switching my phone line) is there any place i can download the update and install manually?
After searching around the only place i found was http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/systemupdates.h
Alas, they only seem to have the spring update available!
So out of experience how long does it usually take for MS to make the latest updates available? or is there some other place i can look for it?
many thanks! -

Registered 17 years agoWell to all you brave early adopters, is there any real substance to those freezing incidents people complain about and -if so- are you confident that MS will fix them anytime soon? -

Registered 17 years agoWell my 360 has been freezing for upto a minute at a time for months now, ever since the Halo 3 beta, in fact. Usually I get round it by ejecting/closing the tray with a game or DVD in it, which causes the system to "unfreeze" but last night it was so bad that I ended up turning off my 360 in disgust and doing something else, because it seemed that everything on the dashboard that was in anyway associated with Live ended up freezing. I even loaded up Call of Duty 4 to play offline and it froze at the Press Start prompt for 40 seconds or so! /rolls eyes
I suspect it's a Live issue rather than a problem with the update as someone mentioned earlier that the 360 only uses a single thread for the dashboard so any lag due to thousands of people being on Live simultaneously will cause intermittent freezes.
Wow, I never knew the 360 was such a sophisticated piece of hardware! /sarcasm -

hi, yeah I posted that link a page or so back in the thread... not used it for a while that way so I can't remember. It could be an idea to email xbox customer support and ask about it? It might be around a week if it's in the same kind of style as their silver account policy? Although, I can't understand why they haven't updated, only a small download (7mb) -

The freezing is due to the console waiting for Xbox Live to respond. Last night there was an obvious spike in XBL traffic as the Americans all turned their machines on so the problem was quite bad, so it should get better on it's own. On the other hand, a well written online interface shouldn't stop the user from doing anything due to the console waiting for a server to respond and transfer data. It's something MS should really fix. -

I concur.
The way the 360 deals with Live you'd think it was a PC circa 1992 running Windows 3.1 not a state-of-the-art console from the 21st century. I mean haven't Microsoft heard of multi-tasking?!? LOL
I'm not particularly bothered that Live is slow to download my Friends list or whatever, but I am annoyed when it results in my console "pausing" for anything up to a minute (and sometimes even longer). That's just unacceptable and obviously something that needs addressing over rubbish stuff like Friends of Friends (which I'd imagine must make the problem worst). -

Registered 15 years agoCheers Harry, I checked your post, same link. So is the latest update the one on that site? Is this the one you used?
It's named: "SystemUpdate_05-2007"
This could mean one of two things: 05 - as in May, or 5 as in the 5th major dashboard update? i have no idea, im banking on the former.
Good idea about emailing MS, will give that a try. -

I'll give it a couple of days (just to make sure all possible issues are reported) and update over the weekend... -

I was planning to use that link but like you, I think that the update on the site is from May... so I had to drag cables all over the place. I've not been on live for 45 days! Hopefully they can give an ETA on when it'll be on the site as the cd-r thing is handy if you can't use Live -

I took one look at that and then logged into my US account to see the difference: streaming vids clips deomonstrating the features, talking about competitions, all of that.
Given that Major Nelson is effectively the english-speaking rep of Xbox Live, why bother with not slapping him up on our version?

Registered 18 years agowell, it's the home market. Things are still better with the xbox compared to before with either Sony or Nintendo, in regards to treatment of Europe. e.g. Late releases, dodgy Pal ports... ya know? -

As far as I know, it's only trial versions you download after the update that don't write to the games list - don't think older ones can be removed. -

Sadly all this new feature does is stop XBLA trial demos from showing in your Gamercard and Games Played list from when you installed the new update, it doesn't remove any that were already there. Yeah, I know it does suck. How difficult would it be to actually check the games on the Gamercard against what purchaes have been made on that Gamer Tag and then remove these demos? It only needs to be done once during the update and then the new feature can do its work from then on but clearly Microsoft aren't intelligent enough to consider that. -

Try reverting to a previous version then reinstalling the update. I had no problem at all. Remember it is a software patch being downloaded to what basically is a computer. There could have been a false hash in the file through a network connection error that is resulting in a poor update for you. -

...this may be a sign that you are on the one way street to RRoDsville. Chequerboard patterns are usually the default image stored in video RAM so the GPU may be malfunctioning.. -

Are your walls rubber? Do you where a white jacket with long sleaves? Do bits of coloured string entertain you?
If so, then no, that's perfectly normal. -

you might need help. -
I like the new fadeout. Though first time it happened I thought the 360 had turned off..the timing is very slightly out...happens as a disc is being spun up, rather than when it's loading whatever's on it.
