From what I understand they are all allowed to cheat a little bit. The men can have an enhanced testosterone to epitestosterone (4:1 compared to 1:1 in a normal person) so they might as well take that legal allowance.

Registered 17 years agoThe variation is due to the inherent variation in men, of whom some can have naturally high test. Plus, a 4:1 variation is unlikely to have a significant impact on training and recovery, as studies have shown.
But it also allows them to draw the line. -

Also feel sorry for Christine. Did well to get to the finals, but the new generation just too much for her. -

Dirty Ruskies and their 2012 doping japes. Hopefully banned for 2016. -

Registered 18 years agoHere's the view from my seat from the final evening of athletics in 2012. The bloke behind us in the suit was giving out great banter, encouraging us all to sing along to the Russian anthem to celebrate yet another gold medal...

Registered 15 years agoRussians are now mentioning that Paula Radcliffe is less than clean. This could yet turn into the most beautiful shit-fest you could hope for. Hopefully WADA go after Kenya, Ethiopia, and Jamaica next (leaving Russia to fling shit around for a while) and then they can go to investigate the "new" accusations. -

Registered 18 years agoYou know it's bad when even Nestlé say "We believe this could negatively impact our reputation and image and will therefore terminate our existing agreement with the IAAF"
Fucking Nestlé worried about the IAAF damaging their image!!

Registered 17 years agoNot surprised at the whole "Seb Coe played dumb" revelations. I think ti was here I revealed I knew Seb's drug supplier back in the day (he was also a british athlete, at weightlifting. Did well in one of the Commonwealths back in the day).
Lord Coe is involved. I'd say any high-level athlete from the late 70s to 80s was involved. -

Registered 18 years agoA step too far? Edwards's WR was close to my heart as I used to triple jump at the time it was set so understand how ball-achingly amazing it it, and Powell's record going... I mean I used to be a huge Carl Lewis fanboi so it hurt, but... wtf?!
Paula Radcliffe and Jonathan Edwards are set to be stripped of their world and European records under new rules that will require anyone breaking a major record to have been tested numerous times in the months beforehand – and to have the sample taken after their record performance still available for retesting.
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/may/01/paula-radcliffe-jonathan-edwards-could-lose-world-european-athletics-records
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has stored blood and urine samples only since 2005, which means that Radcliffe’s world marathon record of 2hr 15min 25sec, set in 2003, and Edwards’ triple jump best of 18.29m set in 1995 will no longer be seen as official European or world records, along with Colin Jackson’s indoor 60m hurdles world record of 7.35sec set in 1994.
The proposal would also mean that historical world records, including Mike Powell’s extraordinary world long jump of 8.95m and Hicham El Guerrouj’s 1500m time of 3min 26.00sec would be stripped from the books. Others that have long been seen as dubious, such as Florence Griffiths-Joyner’s 100m and 200m world records and numerous world bests set by eastern bloc athletes during the Cold War when state-sponsored doping was rife and there was no out-of-competition testing, would also be wiped. -

Registered 15 years agoIt kinda presupposes that there is no cheating now though. Or at least that it will be caught with the current super-awesome totally trustworthy scientific processes that are in place these days. I'm fine with them stripping out the records because most are as dodgy as fuck, but plenty of the surviving ones are too.
I guess they have to try something, it's not like I have any better ideas.

Legend.
I always find it interesting how in a sport like athletics people fall in love with those who dominate their sport, whereas in football teams that are repeatedly successful generate jealousy and contempt
