Because we only finished a little way behind Ethiopia and the Bahamas, clearly two countries who have every reason to have more sporting success than GB and its millions upon millions of pounds wasted in lottery grants...

    Exactly my point.
I mean, Kenya came second, without a single sprinter or field star in site.
I'm shocked Uk:Athletics are "proud" of the achievement. I'm not suprised though, I know first hand how crap the infrastructure is.

Do they honestly believe GB is gonna dominate during 2012? LOL.

Coe also attacked his captaincy of the British athletics team, saying: "I sat in one team meeting when (Christie) made himself deliberately unintelligible to all but those who had a passing knowledge of jive."

Probably very old, but i had to LOL when I read this on BBC sport just now.
He was talking about Linford Christie btw.

Saw it on the news this morning. Awesome stuff. Assuming he's not part of the controversy above!

Nah, he aint part of it.
I'm quite amazed at how people don't realize how much Bolt is going against the grain of the prototypical elite sprinter.
I remember sprint coaches always putting emphasis on stocky/mesomorphic athletes with a low centre of gravity, who are capable of generating huge amount of forces, and they always said stride length was overhyped and it was all about stride frequency.
With bolt, he's tall, gangly, high Centre Of Gravity, doesn't generate huge amount of power (he utilizes elastic energy much more than previous champs) and is generally dominant due to his 8 feet stride length.

Yeah, I saw the Heptathlon - good stuff. I also thought both the British ladies were quite tasty :)

    Bolt's a true phenomenon

    Simply mind-boggling - he reckon's 9.4 is his limit

Wish Top Gear had done a 100m drag race Bolt vs. Porsche when he was on the other month...

Is it now the 'in thing' for all 100m runners to do something wacky when the camera pans down the line-up? They're all bloody at it these days.
  • Deleted user 16 August 2009 21:44:34
We got back from the pub and turned on the television just before the race.

I don't watch athletics normally but feel kind of lucky that I saw that.

    Bollocks.
They keep blood samples and test it vor the next 8 years. It's about the best idea the IOC have ever made and is almost certain to catch any drug user (sooner than later).

IMO, I expect people to be more suspicious of Gay. The american system is known for its doping (duh) and I've always found Gay's arrogance very suspicious. I mean, everyone can see Bolt is genetically very different from all previous champions and has been a teenage phenom for a while now. Yet Gay is confident that he himself can run 9.4? How so? He's never done sub 9.7, but thinks he can do 9.4?
If he even comes close, I say drugs.

Anyone else noticed how most of the world records for most field events are very long standing? I wonder why this is the case?
