I missed the dropping incident up until now. lol. Poor Otto maybe you can get a replacement case on the cheap as they pissed you about so much getting the machine to you?

Nice one HitchHiker, for that price you can't go too far wrong. I would do a bit of research though to be absolutely sure that whatever you buy can run OS X because earlier versions would seem like a major step backwards if you've been using XP. But a Mac as a second machine sounds like a great idea, I'm pretty happy with my two machine setup, PC desktop and Mac laptop. Best of both worlds. :)

(For the record, I recently bunged an extra 512mb RAM into my powerbook, taking it up to 768 in total, but I can't honestly say that I've noticed much difference in performance. That may be because I've got a decently specced recent machine to start with though.)

I've networked very easily to my Win98SE PC from my Mac (er, once I switched off the firewalls) which instantly gave me an extra 60 gigs of storage.

If it's running OS X it will be.

Well I love(d) the external design of my gorgeous powerbook, fortunately I also love the design of the GUI and accompanying software, I say 'fortunately' because as some will know I dropped the fucker the other day and let's just say the 'external design' ain't as pretty as it used to be... :'(

Still works perfectly in every respect though

    *huge sigh of relief*

The damage is external and cosmetic only (which is bad enough). The corner where the battery slots in is crumpled, and the casing round the bottom and right hand edges warped. I've managed to bash it back into roughly the right shape, but the battery no longer fits snugly and feels a bit loose. It's working fine though.
