Registered 16 years agoSo... When can I buy one and how big (storage and physical) are they? -

Registered 17 years agoWell you can buy one today I'd venture to say and we don't know the storage capacity of them as of yet.
The touch one will probably have a hard drive tho as the price of 30G of flash is still prohibitive.
I'm getting one. ;o) -

(As long as it's smaller then my 4th gen 40GB I'm happy) -

I gotta say, one thing about touch-screens is that they are look and then touch screens. You can't adjust volume or search for tracks with touch alone, so either it's buy a dangling remote for extra money or take your player out of your pocket each and every time you wish to change something.
I think Apple need someone like you to help them.
They could be really successful with the portable audio player idea, given a little advice from yourself. -

But with the existing ipods you have to look then use the wheel surely. -

Registered 18 years agono you can definitely use current ipods blind once its playing an album or whatever. Touchscreen stops you being able to find the next track button through your jeans or in your pocket without looking -

Lol no i buy them from PC World with a 'what ever happens' plan so when a new one comes out i just break this one, if it hasn't already broke and they don't even look at it, they just ask what type of new one i would like

I really cannot fucking wait as i have owned every ipod except the video ipod as it was a pointless load of shite but this (if the rumours end up being correct) will be fucking sweet.
I think the iphone looks shite (and i am not talking aesthetics here), but i do love the UI and the whole look of it so if it is similar i will be snapping this up straight away.
Do you break things a lot or just have far too much money?

On that evidence we're talking same iPod screen format with click wheel.

Yeah, but I think that's widely acknowledged/rumoured to be the new 'iPod nano' though.

There's some pics of a new case that's been made that fits in with the dimensions and click wheel that's being touted as the new shape of the nano.
I think the iPod itself will be a whole different kettle of Jobs. I mean fish. -

Why otto?
Those are widescreen and the time/date screens have option sliders like the iPhone which indicates touch screen?
No need for a click wheel in any of those screens. -

Having said that, I've got my 80GB iPod eBay auction all lined up and ready to go in GarageSale. If there's any doubts about the new iPod (or it's just plain shit) it won't be going live. -
I've seen those screengrabs, but I'd hope they're from an early build of the OS - there's something about them that just doesn't look right. -

Maybe you should let Apple know about this. Tell them the deem, world's greatest ever designer, sent you. -

This suggests that you think we're saying that we know better than Apple and that this is a stupid belief.

Apple have got a history of compromising useful aspects of their interface/design in the name of 'aesthetic appeal'. If they do go touchscreen for the new iPods, that tactile 'click onto the next song through your jeans' aspect will be lost, and it's very useful.
Also, your comment earlier about not being able to adjust volume without looking? Totally wrong. I rately if ever need to take my iPod out to adjust the volume. In fact, I only ever take it out to completely change an album, mostly because I listen in Shuffle mode most of the time and just flick onto the next song if I don't like what's on - which doesn't require the iPod to be looked at. -

Registered 18 years agoMan, you sound stoked. The only iPods that possibly interest me are the ones that are shuffle-sized, and not just a colour-variation of my current one. -

Registered 20 years agoOwen, my comment was that with current iPods you do not need to look at the thing to change tracks or volume. Make it touchscreen and you lose this ability. If this is what happens than maybe you know, we do know better than Apple. Well, those of us who like to use our products as well as feel hip about ourselves. My quoting comment was really only a pop at deem and his tedious insistence that he is somehow psychically connected with Mr Ive .gif)
So I'm agreeing with you, in that I feel a move to touchscreen would be a massive lurch towards compromising usability for the sake of teh sexinez. -
Wow, Cloudane's as excited as I was on August 8th.
I'm definitely interested but my credit card is on the run, last seen hiding behind my bedside cabinet quivering with fear.
iPhone Nano, anyone? -

Ah right. Well in that case we're saying the same thing. Just re-read and I realise that I missed the bit where you said "with touch screens" - I thought for some reason you were talking about the current iPods.

I dunno why deem took a pop at you for that comment - it makes complete sense to say that removing the tactile-feedback interface requires you to take it out your pocket to appreciate what control you're actually using. It's what everyone said about the iPhone too, but then you do usually have to look at a phone anyway, except for some feverishly good texters
By the way, you're inviting deem to hit you with the Pedant Stick there - he's never actually insisted he's somehow physically connected with Mr Ive...

OH! You mean someone trapped in the iPod Factory inscribed that on the iPod when it was made! Ohhhhhhhh...
Yeah that's quite funny. -

Aye, it makes sense for a phone as invariably you will be looking at the thing. Even uber texters will need to look down to make sure they are sending their ltst ops 2 th rite prsn. A music player should only need to be looked at to change artist/album/genre/ No way you'll be able to do that with nothing more than a touchscreen.
Maybe Mr Ive's unofficial spokesman here on the mortal realm would have been more appropriate

The iPhone comes with a remote doesn't it? I assume a touch-screen iPod would as well. Or be available soon for £19.99
